Challinor signs for Yaxley

Experienced defender

Yaxley, whose recent form has lifted them to the cusp of the BetVictor Southern League Division One Central play-off places, have brought in the vastly experienced Jon Challinor on dual registration to bolster their squad.

The 39-year-old, who is capable of playing at the back and in midfield with a giant throw, originally signed for Northern Premier Division One South East club Stamford AFC in 2000 having come through the Rushden & Diamonds academy.

He won the FA Trophy in 2012 with York City as well as gaining promotion with them through the play-offs. Has also played for Cambridge City, Aldershot Town, Exeter City, Cambridge United, Mansfield Town, Brackley Town, Newport County as well as a stint in America for the Kalamazoo Kingdom.

Was also named Stamford`s caretaker-manager in November 2015 and was appointed player-coach in the summer of 2019.

The Cuckoos have also brought in young forward Jake Battersby on `work experience` from SkyBet League Two side Cambridge United.

The 18-year-old has been a regular in the U`s under-18 side this season.
