Gale In to Help Gosport

Former Havant & Waterlooville boss takes temporary charge.

Iain McInnes, chairman of Southern League Premier Division South club Gosport Borough, has announced that Shaun Gale will take temporary charge of team affairs following the departure of manager Lee Molyneaux last week.

Gale, who joined Molyneaux’s coaching staff in February 2020, has been put in temporary charge while the process to appoint a successor takes place.

Gale`s previous post was as assistant manager to Lee Bradbury at Vanarama National League South side Eastbourne Borough.

Gale joined Sports shortly after the arrival of Bradbury, with the pair having worked together at Havant & Waterlooville.

As a player, Gale was a full back and made over 300 appearances for Barnet, Exeter City and Havant & Waterlooville from 1994 to 2003.

After injury forced his retirement, he was appointed as assistant manager to then-Havant boss David Leworthy in February 2004.

After a brief period in charge of the Hawks, he was again appointed assistant manager when Bradbury was appointed in 2012.

Following Bradbury’s departure from the Hampshire side and subsequent appointment at Priory Lane, Gale left the Hawks after almost 20 years to take up the position of Bradbury’s number two at the Sports.

McInnes told https://www.gosportboroughfc.co.uk: “For the time being Lee's staff, including coach Shaun Gale and assistant manager Ben Kneller, remain at the club and I am confident they can assure at least the short-term while the club considers its options.

“I’ve gone on record as saying I want stability and continuity. Shaun has bags of experience at this level and knows his way around the non-league world, so he is the perfect person to hold the first for the time being at least.

"However, people won't be surprised to hear that I have already been inundated with offers, some of the candidates with impressive CVs. That shows what an attractive proposition Gosport Borough is as a club.

"The club won't be rushed. Our focus for the moment is our `Feed a Family` campaign, which is far more important than football at the juncture, but fans can rest assured we will be doing everything possible to get the person or people in place who can take the club forward".
