Tuesday`s Emirates FA Cup Round-Up

A look at all of the First Qualifying Round ties played on Tuesday.

There were several upsets involving clubs from the Pitching In Southern Football League in the Emirates FA Cup First Qualifying Round on Tuesday night.

None more so than at Hayden Road where Premier Division Central AFC Rushden & Diamonds – one of the favourites for promotion – were beaten 5-0 by Step 5 Midland League Premier Division side Newark Flowserve in front of a sell-out 450 crowd.

The ambitious Nottinghamshire visitors got off to a great start when they were awarded a penalty just 2 minutes in when Jack Ashton brought down Kevin Bastos in the area and Ben Hutchinson tucked away the spot-kick.

Diamonds` keeper Richard Walton was beaten again 9 minutes later by Danny Meadows and, shortly after Hutchinson had missed an open goal, Meadows headed in his second and Newark`s third on 22 minutes.

After some stern words at half-time, the home side came out for the second half all guns blazing but failed to make the most of their superiority and were caught on the counter-attack in the 72nd minute when Hutchinson nets his second.

And 2 minutes from time, the visitors completed a nap hand with Bastos getting on the scoresheet.

Diamonds` league rivals St Ives Town were also beaten by a Step 5 side in Thurlow Nunn League Premier Division outfit Brantham Athletic, for whom Matt Hayden netted an early goal at the Leisure Centre.

Fellow Premier Division Central side Lowestoft Town are also out after losing by the odd goal in five at Crown Meadow to Isthmian League North Division side Aveley.

The visiting Millers led 2-0 with goals from Bradley Sach after just 4 minutes and George Sykes 14 minutes later before Jake Reed reduced the deficit 7 minutes before the break.

But Sykes grabbed his second and the Essex side`s third in the 64th minute, and although Louis McIntosh pulled one back 5 minutes later for the Trawlerboys and Avley had James Goode sent-off for a second bookable offence 14 minutes from time, the home side wasn`t able to force penalties.

A familiar name scored the winning goal to cause an upset against another Premier Division Central side, Redditch United.

Former Stoke City, Southampton, Preston and Jamaican international striker Ricardo Fuller converted the penalty that saw North West Counties League Premier Division side Hanley Town through 3-2 at Potteries Park.

The now 40-year-old kept his cool to slot home the spot-kick 5 minutes from time after the Reds had been reduced to ten-men with the dismissal of Jack Storer after the half-time whistle.

Kie Brown and Brian Barton were the other Hanley scorers, with Branden Horton and a Lewis Rankin penalty replying for Redditch.

Premier Division South club Dorchester Town also bowed out after losing 2-1 at Southern Combination League Premier Division side Christchurch at Hurn Bridge.

Tom Blair had given the Magpies an early 8th-minute lead which an own goal cancelled out and then the hosts won it in the 90th minute, thanks to a Harvey Wright effort.

Other Southern League teams to bow out to lower league opposition included Division One South Cirencester Town, who suffered a 3-1 defeat at South West Peninsula Leaguers Saltash United – a Ross Gabriel penalty all that the Centurians could muster in reply.

And Cirencester`s league rivals Cinderford Town also lost after a penalty shoot-out to Uhlsport Hellenic League Premier Division visitors Royal Wootton Bassett Town.

The Foresters looked to be in control, leading 2-0 through Rhys Davies and Kieran Alder until TJ Bohane pulled one back on 59 minutes and youngster4 Jack Baker equalised on 90 minutes to set up a penalty shoot-out which Bassett took 6-5.

There was an `internal` upset at Lodge Road where Premier Division South hosts Yate Town were beaten 2-1 by Division One South side Bristol Manor Farm, for whom Lucas Vowles and Lewis Bamford outgunned a last-gasp Stuart Fleetwood reply for the Bluebells.

Division One Central side AFC Dunstable were the team causing the upset as they triumphed on penalties at Moatside against Isthmian League Premier Division Merstham.

The hosts found themselves 2-0 up by the 27th minute through Joedon Gugas-Cowin and Sol Patterson-Bohner.

Dylan Baker reduced the arrears 3 minutes after half-time and then BJ Christie equalised 5 minutes from time to earn AFC a shoot-out chance which they won 7-6.

Premier Division Central Rushall Olympic were one of the Southern League clubs losing to outside opposition.

The Pics were also beaten on penalties at The Meres by Northern Premier League Premier Division side Grantham Town.

The visitors led through Rakeem Reid`s 8th-minute effort, only for Nathan Dyer and then Manny Kianga to turn the game in the Gingerbreads` favour.

Nehemia Zazi pulled Rushall level with virtually the last kick of the game but they couldn`t carry the momentum into the shoot-out which the home side won 3-1.

Division One Central side Welwyn Garden City also bowed out at Herns Way against Isthmian Premier outfit Bishop`s Stortford.

George Ironton gave the Citizens a 17th-minute lead which Darren Foxley levelled just shy of the hour-mark.

Neither side were able to find a winner and it was the visitors who went through 4-3 on penalties.

Safely through against lower league opponents were Division One Central title favouries Halesowen Town, although it was a battle at East Midlands Counties Leaguers West Bridgford before Jack Holmes` goal after 32 minutes eventually proved enough for the Yeltz.

Premier Division South fancies Truro City also scraped through at Sydenhams Football League (Wessex) Premier Tadley Caleva, courtesy of a goal just before the break from Alex Battle.

Truro`s league rivals Swindon Supermarine were far more comfortable 3-0 winners at the WebbsWood Stadium against Western League Premier Division side Shepton Mallet, thanks to Zak Kotwica after 14 minutes, Ryan Campbell on 65 minutes and sub Michael Hopkins 4 minutes from time.

Premier Division Central side Alvechurch survived a potential banana skin away at West Midlands (Regional) League Premier Division Shifnal Town, with Jake Wakeling bagging a brace.

Alvechurch`s league rivals Royston Town won 2-0 at Garden Walk against Thurlow Nunn League Premier Division side Wroxham, courtesy of a Jonny Edwards penalty and an Isaac Galliford effort right at the end against a Yachtsmen outfit who were reduced to ten-men 11 minutes from time when Ryan Curtis was sent-off.

Another Premier Division Central side, Nuneaton Borough, scraped through 2-1 at Liberty Way against Northern Premier League Division One South East outfit Loughborough Dynamo.

The visitors led through Curtis Burrows` 22nd-minute opener which the experienced Marcus Kelly cancelled out on 36 minutes.

Ravi Shamsi scored what proved to be Boro`s winner with 18 minutes left to play.

Nuneaton`s league rivals Kings Langley were forced into a penalty shoot-out to avoid an upset at The Orbital Fasteners Stadium against Thurlow Nunn Premier Division visitors FC Clacton.

Jorell Johnson levelled an early Clacton penalty just before half-time but there were no more goals in the second half – Kings winning 4-2 in the shoot-out.

Another Premier Division Central outfit surviving a home scare were Hednesford Town.

They required a goal from Danny Glover 2 minutes into stoppage time to edge a five-goal thriller at Keys Park against Midland League Premier Division visitors` Long Eaton United.

Glover had put the hosts ahead just before the break.

Alex Marshall pulled Long Eaton level on 58 minutes, Dan Turner put the Pitmen in front on the hour-mark only for Danny Gordon to equalise just 3 minutes later.

Coalville Town saw off Northern Premier Division South East outfit Sheffield FC 2-0 at the Mander Cruikshank Solicitors Stadium, thanks to Kalern Thomas and an own goal.

The other Premier Division Central team through against lower league opposition were Banbury United, for whom Giorgio Rasulo scored the only goal at the Banbury Plant Hire Community Stadium against Northern Premier Division One South East side Carlton Town.

Hendon were one of the Premier Division South sides through against lower league teams.

The Greens edged out Southern Combination Premier Division Crawley Down Gatwick 2-1 at The Haven Sportsfield with goals from subs Jayden Clarke on 76 minutes and then Liam Brooks 2 minutes from time.

Hendon`s rivals Weston-super-Mare made no mistake at Wessex Leaguers Cowes Sports, taking the ferry home after a 5-0 win in which Chris Knowles brace and goals from Jacob Jagger-Cane, Lloyd Humphries and Kieran Thomas saw the Seasiders comfortably through.

Farnborough were forced to come back from being 2-0 down inside 11 minutes at Isthmian South Central side Chalfont St Peter before going through 3-2, thanks to a stoppage time winner from sub Tom Leggett after Connor Cullen on 27 minutes and a Louie Paget penalty in the 78th minute had pulled them level.

Hartley Wintney enjoyed an emphatic 5-0 home win over Southern Counties East League side Erith & Belvedere with goals from Ben Wright with two, Mitch Park, Shane Hollamby and Lukas Burt.

Division One South sides Sholing and Frome Town also beat lower-level opponents – the Boatmen 2-1 at Hellenic League Fairford Town, thanks to Nick Watts and Dan Mason, while Frome Town won 4-1 at home against Wessex Premier visitors AFC Stoneham with Jake Jackson, Jon Davies, Joe O`Loughlin and Kane Simpson all finding the net.

Of the internal affairs, Premier Division Central side Barwell won 3-1 at Kirkby Road against Division One Central visitors Bedworth United Kai Williams with two and a Brady Hickey penalty after the Greenbacks had taken a 38th-minute lead through a Mitch Piggon spot-kick.

The Magpies led 3-0 with goals from Luke Holmes, Charlie Gunson and Jack Lovell before Barum gave them a nervy ending with replies from Nathan Cooper and Harry Clarke near the end.

Toby Holmes with two, Dan Sullivan, sub Owen Howe and Dan McBeam with the Peacocks goals.

Division One South side Moneyfields won 4-3 on penalties at the Meadow against Division One Central hosts Aylesbury United after a 2-2 draw in 90 minutes

It was hardly surprising that the game went to penalties after the referee had awarded four during normal time with the Ducks missing two of them!

The two sides were deadlocked at 2-2 after 90 minutes with Steve Hutchings grabbing both the visitors’ goals - Lee Stobbs and Ollie Hogg with a successful spot-kick in reply.

Aylesbury`s league rivals Daventry also suffered a home defeat to Division One South opposition in Evesham United, for whom Jamie Lucas and Aaron Basford were on the mark.

In all-Premier Division Central ties Leiston enjoyed a 5-1 hammering of Biggleswade Town at the Watson & Hillhouse Victory Road Stadium.

The Suffolk club`s hero was Will Davies, who grabbed four of the goals, with Jamie Eaton-Collins adding the other.

Bromsgrove Sporting suffered a 2-1 defeat at the Victoria Ground by Stratford Town.
