Nuneaton Bring in Experienced Defender

Boro chance for former Shayman.

Pitching In Southern Football League Premier Division Central club Nuneaton Borough have signed experienced defender Scott McManus.

The 31-year-old from Greater Manchester started out as an apprentice at Manchester United.

He was released by United without playing above under-18 level and joined his local club, Prestwich Heys.

He spent three years with his local team before been picked up by then Northern Premier League side Curzon Ashton.

However, he wouldn`t make a senior appearance for The Nash as in a pre-season friendly against Nottingham Forest he impressed so much that offers arrived from Forest and Crewe Alexandria, with McManus choosing the latter.

He spent two years with the Railwaymen, making 6 first-team appearances.

After being released by Crewe, McManus joined FC United of Manchester for a season in 2010/11 before crossing the Pennines to sign for FC Halifax Town.

It was as a Shaymen that his career really blossomed, and he went on to play over 250 times and score 12 goals, appearing in the 2015/16 FA Trophy Final victory over Grimsby Town, scoring the only goal of the game with a lob over the keeper from 22 yards.

In May 2018, it was announced he would be leaving the Shaymen and joined Nuneaton`s league rivals Coalville Town to be closer to his home in the Midlands.

He made sporadic appearances for the Ravens last season and then went into semi-retirement, turning out for his local team this season.
