The Division One South club issued the following statement: “It is with great sadness that we have learnt today of the passing of Tony Thornhill.
“Tony and his family were instrumental in the history of Slimbridge Football Club, with Tony’s father Evi giving the club the land on which the stadium sits.
“In recent years Tony and his late wife Margret both attended matches at the club which now bares the Thornhill name.
“Our condolences and thoughts go out to the Thornhill family”.
