Pitching In Southern League Premier Division South club Truro City have announced that manager Paul Wotton has signed a new long-term contract.
The Board recognise the dedication and commitment that Wotton has shown since his arrival at the club two years ago and strongly believe that if circumstances were different, he would have led the club back to promotion to the Vanarama National League South.
Wotton was appointed as Truro manager in the summer of 2019.
He was his home-town team Plymouth Argyle`s most successful captain and by the time he left Home Park in 2008, he had broken into the top ten of the current League One club's all-time appearances with a tally of 394 and 54 goals.
He went on to spend three seasons at Southampton and one at Yeovil Town before returning to Argyle where he was appointed player-coach at the end of the 2013/14 season and formally retired from playing the following year.
Renowned for his leadership and powerful shot, he played at both centre-half and defensive midfield.
In signing a long-term deal with the club, Wotton will continue to be a crucial member at the football club as it begins an exciting new era.
Club consultant Alex Black told Click to visit Truro City web site: “We as a football club are delighted to agree terms to keep Paul as manager for the foreseeable future. He has had a positive impact both on and off the field and we believe he is the right man to lead us into our brand-new stadium.”
“We have big plans here at Truro and Paul is integral to what we want to achieve.”
Wotton commented: “I’m excited. It shows the clubs intent and how forward thinking they are. I’ve committed to them and they’ve committed to me. It’s all good, it’s exciting.
“I’ve been here two seasons now, which have been really frustrating seasons and hopefully we’ll never see ones like it again, but I feel like there is some unfinished business.
“We want to achieve stuff as a football club. The club’s in a great place now with the owners and the new stadium being built. It’s my job to try and get a decent team on the pitch.”
He explained: “Once I knew the direction the club was going on and off the pitch and knew I had the continued support; it was a no brainer for me.
“It’s really important to have the support of Dickie Evans the owner, Alex Black who has been fantastic with me as well as Jack Richards and Rebecca Thomas.
“The possibilities for Truro City are endless. There are good people at the club and the new ground being built is crazy exciting, and it is happening!
“We’ve got aspirations, I know where I want to be with the club. It’s one season at a time. First and foremost, lets juts get back playing and one thing that I promised on the first day I arrived, is whatever Truro City team I put out will keep going right until the final whistle. We’ve done that so far and will continue to do so”.
