The 21-year-old previously had a spell at The Walks on loan from Championship side Norwich City in the 2019/20 season, where he made 25 appearances, finding the net 3 times.
He signed for the Trawlerboys in late November 2020 after being released by the Canaries.
He was one of ten youngsters to be offered first-year scholarships with Norwich in July 2016.
In June 2018, he signed his first professional contract with the Canaries and was called up to the first-team bench for the away clash with Sheffield Wednesday in November 2018 due to an injury crisis and lack of homegrown players.
He signed a new one-year deal with City in February 2019 and in August 2019 joined King`s Lynn on a season-long loan ahead of their National League North campaign.
However, Norwich released him after 12 years with the club and signed for National League South outfit Braintree Town in the summer of 2020 but left the Iron at the end of October.
With the National League being the only non-League competition still currently playing, it gives Payne a chance to stay match fit.
