Former striker Brett Donnelly, who was a first-team coach under Mark Burke at Top Field, has been appointed as the new manager of Spartan South Midlands League Division One club Stotfold on completion of the season.
Donnelly takes over from Luke Gregson, who stepped down earlier this month citing family and work commitments.
Donnelly retired from playing in July 2020 having re-joined Hitchin from Southern Premier Division Central rivals Biggleswade Town in May 2019 as player-coach.
He had been player/assistant-manager with the Waders.
The striker previously made 198 appearances for the Canaries and scored 52 goals – one of only 40 players in the history of the club to surpass the 50-goal landmark – and was an integral member of the 2015/16 and 2016/17 squads that reached the Southern Premier Division play-offs.
He has scored goals wherever he has played, which has included spells with Barton Rovers, Codicote and a previous stint with Biggleswade.
