Pitching In Southern Football League Division One South club Moneyfields secured victory in the long-delayed 2019/20 semi-final of the Portsmouth Senior Cup by beating Sydenhams Football League (Wessex) Premier side Fareham Town 3-1 at the Sports Ground on Saturday.
Moneyfields were forced to field a side containing the remaining first team players, reserves and a handful who signed dual registration forms from Isthmian League South East outfit Chichester City, following the departure of manager Dave Carter to AFC Portchester along with several of his players.
Goalkeeper Steve Mowthorpe and defenders Ben Pashley and Tyler Giddings were all former Moneyfields players currently on Chichester`s books, whilst interim managers Louis Bell and Louis Savage also started Chi`s former Portsmouth winger Kaleem Haitham.
But it was a familiar face who opened the scoring for the hosts after 13 minutes when Haitham was hauled down in the box and Steve Hutchings tucked away the resulting penalty.
Then on 32 minutes, Hutchings turned provider when he put Haitham in to beat Fareham `keeper Dan Kempston.
Gary Austin pulled one back in first half injury-time, but Hutchings was brought down by Kempston as he went through and he got up to notch his second spot-kick of the afternoon to make it 3-1 in the 4th minute of time added on in the first period.
Fareham had more of the game in the second period, but Moneyfields patched up team managed to see it through and have a final against Fareham`s league rivals Baffins Milton Rovers at Portsmouth`s Fratton Park to look forward to – hopefully with their supporters able to be there to see if their side can retain the trophy.
