Ollie Bassett
Pitching In Southern Football League Premier Division Central club Nuneaton Borough have announced the departure of attacking midfielder Ollie Bassett.
The 23-year-old, who has already enjoyed a well-travelled career to date, has agreed a deal with Canadian Premier League side Pacific FC.
Bassett, who signed for Boro in early October 2020, started his career as a youngster in the Aston Villa academy before signing a scholarship with Southampton in 2014.
The following year, at the age of just 17, he made his debut for Yeovil Town, becoming the youngest player at the time to play in the Football League.
Later that year, he signed his first professional contract with the Glovers.
He earned international recognition in 2016 when he played for Northern Ireland at under-19 level.
Whilst at Huish Park, he had three separate loan spells with Dorchester Town and when he was released by Yeovil at the end of the 2016/17 season, he joined Nuneaton`s league rivals Coalville Town, where he played 13 times and also had a lengthy loan stint at Gresley Rovers.
In 2018, he made the move to New Zealand and was picked up by Waitakere United where he went on to make 18 appearances and score 4 goals in 20018/19.
He spent the following season with Waitakere`s league rivals Team Wellington before having a short spell in Australia with St Albans Saints – a semi-pro club originally known as Dinamo, based in St Albans, Victoria and established by local Croatian Australians.
Nuneaton manager Jimmy Ginnelly told his club`s website: “We would like to wish Ollie all the best in his venture to become a professional footballer.
“When he signed for us at the Boro you could see the kid had electric feet and an amazing attitude to succeed as a footballer.
“His energy was there every time he entered the pitch for me and I’m really proud that he’s been picked from his great team performances at Liberty Way.
“He’s been an absolute diamond to work with and I can only see him going from strength to strength as a player.
“Me, the staff and all the players will be keeping an eye on Ollie`s performances on the other side of the globe in Canada”.
