Pitching In Southern Football League Division One South club Moneyfields retained the Portsmouth Senior Cup after bating Sydenhams Football League (Wessex) Premier side Baffins Milton Rovers on penalties at Portsmouth`s Fratton Park on Thursday night.
Under interim manager Louis Savage and his assistant Louis Bell, Moneys beat Rovers` league rivals Fareham Town in the semi-final last month and were given a stern test by the Step 5 outfit.
This was actually the much-delayed 2019/20 final, with Moneyfields having won the previous competition by hammering Paulsgrove 7-1 and then the global pandemic caused the competition to be halted.
A good crowd of 831 saw Moneyfields take the lead 3 minutes before half-time through Steve Hutchings.
That looked like being enough to take the trophy. However, with virtually the last kick of the game, Rovers were awarded a penalty which was converted by Tommy Scott.
So, it was to spot-kicks to decide the outcome and Moneyfields eventually triumphed 6-5.
