Marcus Kelly

Marcus Kelly is the latest player to link back up with Pitching In Southern Football League Premier Division Central club Nuneaton Borough for the 2021/22 season.

The midfielder joined Boro in July 2020 from his home-town club, Vanarama National League North Kettering Town.

The 35-year-old previously played for the now-defunct Rushden & Diamonds and Oxford United before joining Kettering for the first time in November 2009 on loan.

He joined the Poppies on a permanent basis in January 2010 and developed as an attacking full-back, winning the player of the season award.

Crippling finances saw him become the victim of a clear out, joining Mansfield Town but he returned to the Poppies in January 2011 under Mark Cooper, seeing the season out, but he left the Poppies again in May 2012 for Tamworth.

He later he played for Forest Green Rovers under Cooper again and also for Wrexham before making another return to the Poppies in July 2018 and helping them to win the Southern Premier Division Central title.

Nuneaton boss Jimmy Ginnelly told his club`s website: “I am extremely happy to get Marcus to commit to another season at Liberty Way. He is our playmaker with his vision and a wand of a left foot. He opens doors on a regular basis for our forwards and his set pieces are always on point for our centre-halves to get their head on things in the opposition box. He is one of the fittest at the club and keeps himself in fantastic shape outside of football.

“Marcus is a great character in and around the dressing rooms and I’m sure we will see his quality shine through next season".
