Jefferson Louis
Beaconsfield Town boss Gary Meakin has been a busy man, especially late on in the close season, and has virtually re-built his squad.
The Rams were probably one of the relieved teams when the 2019/20 and 2020/21 campaigns were declared null and void as they were struggling, so hopes are high of better to come.
Look out for: Veteran Jefferson Louis – still going strong at 43!
Key signings:
Jordan Aghatise (Barnstaple Town)
Harrison Bayley (Marlow)
Scott Donnelly (Hayes & Yeading United)

Chesham United have kept their cards very close to their chest in terms of new signings to date, with quite a number of `triallists` appearing on their pre-season friendly team sheets.
Bosses James Duncan and Michael Murray do have what looks to be a settled squad though, several of who followed the duo from Potters Bar Town, so one would expect a promotion challenge from the Generals.
Look out for: Eoin Casey
Key signings:
Kyle Davison-Gordon (Hitchin Town)
Lerone Plummer (Moneyfields)
James Richardson (Ascot United)
Dorchester Town will be hoping for much better this season under Robbie Herrera after underachieving in recent years.

Look out for: Sam Bayston
Key signings:
Gerard Benfield (Weymouth – Loan)
Callum Buckley (Hayes & Yeading United – Loan)

Farnborough are a big club who have been out of the Vanarama National League now for six years.

Jordan Rose (Gosport Borough)
Elijah Simpson (Beaconsfield Town)
Reggie Young (Hemel Hempstead Town – Loan)
Like Farnborough, Gosport Boroughhave known better times and under Shaun Gale, supporters are optimistic that their team could be challengers this season.
Gale has made some eye-catching summer signings and one would expect Boro to be pushing for a play-off spot at least.

Paul Agbeseyi (Bromley)
Bouwe Bosma (Lewes)
Matt Briggs (Vejle Boldklub – Denmark)

Samuel Adenola (Holmesdale)
James Ewington (Beaconsfield Town)
James Mansfield (Flackwell Heath)
Lekan Orimolusi (Epsom & Ewell)

Hartley Wintney have managed one full season as a Premier Division South outfit (2018/19) and finished that one place below Harrow in eighth.
Anthony Millerick`s side have done well to compete on equal terms alongside some big names in non-League football and no doubt will be hard to beat this term.
Look out for: Sam Argent
Key signings:
Ryan Case (Dulwich Hamlet)
Aaron Goode (Sutton Common Rovers)
Nathan Jones (Reading City)
Jacques Kpohomouh (Ashton United)
Sam Shaw (Harefield United)
Hayes & Yeading United are a side with ambitions to return higher in the non-League Pyramid and manager Paul Hughes has built a strong-looking squad over the last year or so.

Look out for: Francis Amartey
Key signings:
Azeez Alabi (Knaphill)
Moses Emmanuel (Wealdstone)
Ben Frempah (Ebbsfleet United)
Hassan Jalloh (Royston Town)
Afolabi Soyemi-Ololade (Fisher FC)

Chris Cummins` side only missed out on a play-off place by a point the last time they were in the southern section (2018/19) so will be looking to go one better this time.
Look out for: Harrison Crawford
Key signings:
Jacob Cook (Hemel Hempstead Town)
James Gurteen (FC Southall)
Kyle Lincoln (St Ives Town)
Alfie Marriott (Watford – Loan)
Jack Moriarty (Stevenage)
It`s great to have Merthyr Town back after a season when they were forced to be `mothballed` due to the pandemic.
It must have been extremely hard to keep players, and whilst some were able to get a little football in more local Welsh leagues, a bit of rustiness has shown in pre-season with some mixed results for new boss Dean Clarke.
But their enthusiastic supporters will be looking for a promotion challenge.
Look out for: Ian Traylor
Key signings:
Daniel Barnard (Swansea University)
Steven Cann (Briton Ferry)
Connor Davies (Penybont)

Liam Beach (Farnborough)
Shea Bennington-Mannings (Bradford Town)

David Vetterlein (FSV Union Fürstenwalde)

Poole Town boss Tom Killick is relying largely on the squad he has had at his disposal for the last year or two.
Stability can be good though and Poole`s loyal supporters will be looking for the Dolphins to be there or thereabouts come the end of the season.
Look out for: Tony Lee
Key signings:
Dan Bartlett (Coventry City)
Jack Dickson (Weymouth)
Will this be the year that Salisbury make it up to the next level for the first time as this incarnation?
Steve Claridge`s side came mighty close in their last full season – 2018/19 – when they finished fourth and then lost to Mer Police in the play-off semi-final.
Claridge has made few changes this summer but has a good squad available and it would be a surprise if the Whites are not challengers.

Sioni Benham (Novelda CF – Spain)
Dylan Jones (Hereford)
Aaron McCreadie (Gosport Borough

Ioan Richards (Redditch United)
Connor Sidley-Adams (Wellington)
Zac Smith (Bristol City)
Jack Veale (Exeter City – Loan)
Can Tiverton Town be contenders with their neighbours from up the M5?
It will seem strange not to see Martyn Rogers in the dug-out after the long-server decided to call time on his managerial career, and now it`s down to his nephew Scott to take the helm on his own.
Some decent summer signings added to an already healthy squad should keep them in the frame.
Look out for: Louis Morrison
Key signings:
Joe Belsten (Buckland Athletic)
Max Gillard (Exmouth Town)
Louis Morison (Exeter City)
Theo Simpson (Exeter City)
Gary Warren (Torquay United)

Another side expected to be amongst the favourites for the title are Truro City.
And Paul Wotton`s side, who have yet to complete a season since being relegated back to the Southern League, have all the tools to satisfy the bookmakers` confidence.
Wotton looks to have been happy with what he had at his disposal as he has been quiet in the transfer market.

Cheick Diabate (Exeter City – Loan)
Ellis Johnson (Exeter City – Loan)
Walton Casualsare a club who have found it hard to compete at this level since being promoted from the Isthmian League in 2018.
They avoided going straight back down only by two points, but the Stags have a fresh look about them this term, so it`s hard to evaluate their campaign ahead.

Warren Sadare-Morgan (Corinthian-Casuals)
Joe Wotton (Hampton & Richmond Borough)
Weston-super-Mare are another of the strong favourites with the bookmakers.
The Seagulls are another side to have been relatively quiet on the signing front to date and have had some good pre-season performances to keep their supporters reasonably happy.
Another of the M5 promotion challengers!
