Pitching In Southern League Premier Division South club Tiverton Town have signed defender Alfie Pond on a month`s loan from League Two side Exeter City.
The 17-year-old centre-back played 70 minutes in Tuesday night’s 1-1 draw against Chelsea’s under-21s in the Papa John’s Trophy, with the Grecians suffering a 4-3 penalty shoot-out defeat.
Pond was appearing for the first time in nearly two months after having suffered the effects of Covid-19.
Pond started Exeter’s first pre-season friendly at Weston-super-Mare and featured for 45 minutes in the 1-0 win at Tiverton but was one of the players who tested positive for Covid-19 prior to the game with Taunton Town.
And whilst the others suffered no symptoms at all, it took Pond a while to get over the effects of the illness and hadn’t played any competitive football since the start of July.
And with Exeter now out of the Papa John`s Trophy, it is hoped a move to Tivvy will give him valuable game time.
