Pitching In Southern League Premier Division Central club St Ives Town have added two players to their squad.

Defender Sam Cartwright is already known to Saints` supporters as he had a successful loan spell at Westwood Road from Championship side Peterborough United during the 2018/19 season.

The 21-year-old came through the Posh academy, earning his first professional contract in October 2017 and making two appearances for the first team in his four-year spell at London Road - both in the EFL Trophy against Arsenal under 21s and Cambridge United.

During that time, he also spent a number of spells out on loan with various clubs including King’s Lynn Town, Leatherhead, Grantham Town, Woking and Oxford City in addition to St Ives.

Also signing for St Ives is vastly experienced midfielder David Bridges.

Now 38, Huntingdon-born Bridges began his career with Cambridge United and worked his way through their youth set up before turning professional in 2001.

Two spells with the U’s saw him make 126 appearances and score 14 goals.

Since leaving the club for the second time he has also had lengthy spells at Kettering Town, Stevenage Borough, Chelmsford City, Brackley Town, King’s Lynn Town and most recently St Neots Town.

Since leaving the Saints, he has been head coach at League One Lincoln City and is now a coach educator for the Professional Football Association.

Bridges also has one cap for the England C team under his belt - a 3-1 win against Italy C in 2006 whilst on Cambridge`s books.
