Redditch Make League Cup Progress

Reds edge out Martyrs.

Pitching In Southern League Premier Division Central club Redditch United made it through to the next round of the League Cup after beating Premier Division South side Merthyr Town 2-1 at the Trico Stadium on Monday night.

The Reds, fielding their three recent new signings, took a 26th minute lead through one of them – Luke Rowe, signing from Northern Premier League Division One Midlands outfit Coleshill Town.

That was it until the 80th minute when Dan Sweeney popped up with the home side`s second of the evening.

And, despite Tom Hillman pulling one back for the Martyrs 4 minutes later and some exerted pressure from the Welsh side, Matt Clarke`s side held on to progress from the Preliminary Round.
