Saturday`s Buildbase FA Trophy Round-Up

Saturday`s ties in the Buildbase FA Trophy Second Qualifying Round produced something of a goal-fest in some of the ties involving Pitching In Southern Football League teams.

The league also lost four sides after a penalty shoot-out.

Former Trophy winners Canvey Island, now members of the Isthmian League North Division, went through late on Saturday evening after a 7-6 penalty win over Division One Central side Ware following a 2-2 draw in 90 minutes at Wodson Park.

Conor Hubble broke the deadlock to give the Gulls a 52nd-minute lead that Dave Kendall levelled 6 minutes later.

Matt Price restored the visitors` lead just past the hour-mark, only for Louis Rose to take the tie to spot-kicks with an 82nd-minute equaliser.

Division One Central leaders North Leigh are also out of the competition after also sharing a 2-2 draw with Isthmian League South Central new boys Binfield at Eynsham Park.

Last season`s FA Vase runners-up found themselves 2-0 down to goals from Jordan Thomas and Wesley Jodo with only 20 minutes gone.

Jack Thomson-Wheeler pulled one back just before half-time and then Callum Bunting equalised on 68 minutes.

Binfield eased through the penalty shoot-out 4-1.

And another Division One Central side to lose on penalties were Alesbury United after Sonny French had cancelled out Andy Kabuikusomo`s 22nd minute opener for Isthmian South Central visitors Chipstead in the 51st minute.

Chipstead won 4-2 from spot-kicks.

Former FA Vase winners, Division One South Sholing and Isthmian South Central Thatcham Town, also battled out a penalty shoot-out after a 1-1 draw at Waterside Park.

Lamin Ceesay`s 24th-minute opener for the Kingfishers was eventually cancelled out by sub Claudio Herbert 7 minutes from time.

But the Boatmen weren`t able to continue on the front foot as Thatchan won through 3-2.

There were a couple of successful sides going through on penalties though as another Division One Central outfit, Waltham Abbey shared a 2-2 draw at The OHOB Community Stadium against Isthmian South Central side East Grinstead Town.

Kie Douglas gave the Wasps an early 4th-minute lead that Nathan Koranteng cancelled out from the spot after 15 minutes.

Isaac Nkosi then gave the Abbots the lead right on halt-time which Frants Bakalis pulled back just before the hour-mark.

But the Abbots kept their cool to triumph 4-2 in the shoot-out.

And in an all-Division One South tie at the Causeway Ground, Cinderford Town won 4-2 on penalties after a 0-0 draw with Bideford AFC in 90 minutes.

Division One South leaders AFC Totton proved too hot for bottom-markers and yet-to-win Barnstaple Town, running out 6-0 winners at The Snows Stadium.

Hisham Kasimu was the Stags` hero with four of the goals, including a first half hat-trick, with Freddie Read and Ethan Taylor adding the others.

Other Division One South winners on the day were Paulton Rovers, Cirencester Town, Frome Town, Plymouth Parkway, Melksham Town, Larkhall Athletic and Willand Rovers.

Ed Butcher and Leighton Thomas scored a goal in each half to take Paulton through at the expense of league rivals Bristol Manor Farm at The Creek.

Cirencester beat Division One Central side Kidlington 5-1 at the Corinium Stadium in a game that saw both teams miss a penalty.

But Josh Parsons, Ben Whitehead, Tom Handley and subs Aidan Bennett and Ross Gabriel scored to make it a nap hand for the Centurians.

Frome also hit five – but away from home at the Loop Meadow Stadium against Division One Central side Didcot Town.

Like Cirencester, Frome had five different marksmen in Jon Davies, James Ollis, Marcus Mapstone, Joe O`Loughlin and Rex Mannings – and all after Noah Alabi had given the Railwaymen a 6th-minute lead!

Parkway were yet another to go nap – and also away from home against league rivals Highworth Town.

The Worthians` Ashley Edenborough must be hugely disappointed as he netted a hat-trick but so did Jack Crago for the visitors, who also had Tom Bath and an own goal to add to their tally.

Melksham edged a best-of-five tie at home to Isthmian South Central side Basingstoke Town.

Conor Lynch gave the former Southern Leaguers a 10th-minute lead that Jay Malshanskyj levelled on 34 minutes.

Aaron Parsons and then Albie Hopkins put Melksham 3-1 ahead just after the break, and although Brad Wilson pulled one back in the 66th minute, Richard Fey`s side held on.

Larkhall knocked out league rivals Slimbridge 3-1 at Plain Ham, thanks to a brace from Lewis Powell and one from Sam Crumb.

Willand went through 2-1 at home against struggling league rivals Mangotsfield United, although Noah Coppin and a 93rd minute Archie Reay goal came after the Mangos had led 1-0.

Division One Central winners were Thame United, Welwyn Garden City, Harlow Town, Bedford Town and Berkhamsted.

Thame beat Division One South side Lymington Town 3-0 at home with goals from Ryan Blake, Greg Hackett and Lynton Goss.

Carl Mensah bagged a first half brace for Welwyn Garden City in their 3-0 home win over Isthmian South Central side Ashford Town (Middx).

Jack Vasey added a third 9 minutes from time.

Junior Dadson, Tiannie Wilson and an own goal sealed Harlow`s home triumph against Ashford`s league rivals Phoenix Sports.

Bedford received a helping hand – or feet – from Northern Premier Division One Midlands visitors Cambridge City at The Eyrie before going through 5-0.

The Eagles were already 2-0 up through Hugh Alban-Jones and Lewis Micciop when City had Yaw Ofosu sent-off for a bad tackle in the 35th minute, swiftly followed by Tom Hitchcock seconds later for swearing at the official!

Alban-Jones, Rene Howe and sub Craig Mackail-Smith added further goals against the nine-men in the second half.

And James Verney bagged a brace for Berkhamsted as they went through against league rivals Barton Rovers at Sharpenhoe Road.

The league lost Division One Central trio Hertford Town, Colney Heath and Biggleswade FC to outside opposition.

Hertford put up a battle at Isthmian South Central promotion favourites Bracknell Town before going down 3-2.

Seb Bowerman`s 8th-minute penalty for the Robins was cancelled out by Hertford`s Max Hudson.

But Duncan Culley and James Clark pulled the Berkshire side 3-1 clear, and although Vlad Sighiartau pulled a second back, it wasn`t until a minute from time.

Colney Heath lost 5-2 at home to Isthmian North side Basildon United, whose Bertie Brayley and Luke Hirst both bagged braces, with Chris Griffin and George Devine on target for Heath.

Biggleswade lost 2-0 on the 3G at Northern Premier Division One Midlands hosts Yaxley, whose Spencer Tinkler and Matt Sparrow were on the mark.
