Following discussions between manager Brendan Kelly and the Board of the Directors at Pitching In Southern League Premier Division Central club Bromsgrove Sporting, it was mutually agreed that Kelly, along with his assistant manager Ian King, would leave with immediate effect.
Kelly stepped up from being assistant manager of the Rouslers in March 2018 following the resignation of Paul Smith.
He was a centre-back with Sporting, Halesowen Town, Alvechurch, Sutton Coldfield Town and Redditch United in his playing days.
In Kelly`s first full season in charge (2018/19), the Rouslers finish in second place to Peterborough Sports, but after winning the Division One Central play-off semi-final against Sutton Coldfield 3-2 after extra-time 3-2 and the final against Corby Town 4-3, also after overtime in front of a crowd of 2,943 at the Victoria Ground, Sporting were once again promoted, this time to the Southern Premier Division Central for the 2019/20 season.
Unfortunately for Sporting, when the season was declared null and void due to the Covid-19 pandemic in March 2020, Kelly`s side were in fourth place with ten matches remaining and one of the firm favourites to make the play-offs at least.
This season, however, Sporting have struggled, being 16th in the table at present, having lost their last five games, including a 5-0 defeat to Vanarama National League leaders Grimsby Town in front of the BBC cameras in the Emirates FA Cup.
Chairman Mike Burke told his club`s website: “The Board of Directors would like to thank Brendan for all his hard work and efforts, originally taking charge of the club at a critical time and achieving the promotions to get the club where it is today – a task made even harder due to the disruption of COVID.
“We sincerely wish Brendan and Ian all the best for the future.”
The interim management team will consist of director of football Graham Scott, assisted by the experienced Gavin Hurren.
