Emirates FA Cup Preview - Yate Town v Yeovil Town

A look at the First Round tie involving the Bluebells.

Saturday sees Pitching In Southern League Premier Division South club Yate Town welcome National League side Yeovil Town to the South West Interiors Stadium.

Yate, currently ninth in the Premier Division South table, go into the tie in prime form, having inflicted a 5-2 defeat on Salisbury on Tuesday night, making up for last weekend`s disappointment of exiting the FA Trophy at the hands of Division One South side Willand Rovers.

So, against the Glovers, the Bluebells will be hoping the upset boot is on the other foot!

To reach the First Round, Yate have seen off league rivals Dorchester Town 3-1 in the First Qualifying Round, with Olly Mehew bagging a brace – and manager Paul Michael will be desperately keen to get his striker fit for the Yeovil game – another Premier Division South side, Gosport Borough, were beaten 2-0 in the Second Qualifying Round, a potential banana skin was overcome when they beat Combined Counties Leaguers Redhill 3-0 in the next round and, after a delayed Fourth Qualifying Round tie with Yeovil`s league rivals Dover Athletic was drawn 1-1 in Kent, Yate won the replay 1-0 to earn their place in the First Round.

It is just Yate`s second appearance in the First Round, their previous time was a 3-0 loss at Cheltenham Town in 2012/13.

The sides have never met in competitive action.

Yeovil are, of course, one of the most famous non-League clubs and possesses one of the best records in terms of causing FA Cup shocks.

However, their recent record isn`t so good and they have lost four of their last five games in the First Round, conceding at least three goals in each defeat.

But they did enjoy a good run in 2017/18 when in League Two, reaching the Fourth Round before losing 4-0 against Manchester United at Huish Park.

Yeovil are looking to reach the Second Round of the FA Cup in consecutive seasons as a non-League side for the first time since doing three seasons in a row between 1991/92 and 1993/94.
