Rovers Hit Magpies For Six

Emphatic League Cup progress for Paulton.

Neil Martin - started the scoring

Neil Martin - started the scoring

There was just one game in the Pitching In Southern Football League on Wednesday night and it was a League Challenge Cup second round tie between Premier Division South club Wimborne Town and Division One South side Paulton Rovers at the New Cuthbury.

And although Wimborne manager James Stokoe fielded a side containing several members of the club`s development squad, a 6-1 win for the team a division still ranks as a particularly good achievement.

Neil Martin headed a 9th-minute opener for the visitors and 6 minutes later, Rovers went two-up when Martin headed back across goal for Leighton Thomas to slot home.

Just 3 minutes after half-time, the Magpies dragged themselves back into the tie with a goal from new signing Dylan Ive.

However, the last 30 minutes or so saw Paulton pile on the pressure.

It was 3-1 in the 63rd minute through Liban Ibrahim and 6 minutes later, Ibrahim turned provider for Ed Butcher to fire past Wimborne keeper Ryan Hall.

Rovers made it a nap hand in the 78th minute through substitute Thierry Swaby.

And with 9 minutes remaining, David O'Hare made it 6-1 with a neat volley past Hall.
