Tuesday night`s action in the Pitching In Southern League Division One Central saw just two matches and only one goal.
But that was a significant one as it took Berkhamsted back to the top of the table after beating the side who began the evening at the summit, Bedford Town, in front of 321 at Broadwater.
An eventful opening 45 minutes somehow finished goalless, although Berko had a great chance to take the lead as early as the 5th minute, but Lucas Kirkpatrick fired a penalty over the bar.
The only goal came 8 minutes into the second half when new signing Cheyce Grant headed Berkhamsted in front past Alex Street, who tried his hardest to keep it out.
Some excellent defending saw Berko through to a vital three points which lifts them back on top, a point in front of the Eagles, who have played a game more.
St Neots Town had the opportunity to move into sixth spot when they entertained ninth-placed Waltham Abbey at the Premier Plus Stadium.
And despite the game finishing 0-0, it was an entertaining encounter with chances for both teams.
