Johnston Leaves Puritans for Saints

Striker Ethan Johnston has switched from Banbury United to Pitching In Southern League Premier Division Central rivals St Ives Town.

The 19-year-old signed for the Puritans in July.

He came through the Northampton Town Football & Education Programme and their academy to earn a professional contract with the League Two outfit in February 2020.

A prolific goalscorer at youth level, he made his first-team debut for the Cobblers in a Carabao Cup game away to Bristol City in September 2020.

He gained experience of non-League football when joining St Ives` league rivals Redditch United on loan at the end of September 2020, scoring one of their goals in a 4-1 home win over Biggleswade Town the following month.

This was followed by a short loan spell with Vanarama National League North side Kettering Town before Covid-19 drew the season to a premature close.

Earlier in the summer of 2021, he trialled with League One sides Sunderland and Gillingham.

Banbury boss Andy Whing told his club`s website: “Ethan has been absolutely fantastic for us on and off the pitch. Unfortunately, he hasn’t had the minutes he has probably wanted so it’s the right time for him to go and play games, we wish him all the best”.
