Taunton Hit Seven to go Sixth

Covid caused the postponement of the scheduled games at Hayes & Yeading United and Yate Town on Tuesday night, leaving just Harrow Borough`s long trek to Taunton Town as the only game in the Pitching In Southern League Premier Division South.

However, it produced eight goals for the decent pre-Christmas crowd of 501 at The Cygnet Health Care Stadium.

Unfortunately for the visitors, it was the Peacocks who netted seven of them to leap-frog over them into sixth place in the table.

It appeared that Harrow weren`t suffering too much from their long journey down the M4 and M5 from North London as they took an early 2nd minute lead when top scorer James Ewington fired past Will Buse in the home goal.

But Taunton were back on level terms within 4 minutes with a long-range effort from Jared Lewington.

Ross Stearn gave the hosts the lead after 22 minutes when he netted following a strong run into the box.

And less than 2 minutes later, it was 3-1 as Stearn popped up with his second of the game.

Right on the stroke of half-time, Rob Dray`s side took a three-goal lead into the break when Toby Holmes turned and fired past Josh Strizovic.

It was Holmes who made it a nap hand just 7 minutes after the interval with a powerful header.

And he completed his hat-trick in the 67th minute with a far post finish from a free-kick.

It became 7-1 in the 78th minute when, after a good save from Strizovic, sub Ross Staley managed to get to the loose ball first to fire home.

And Taunton had chances after that to make the hammering an even bigger one, but in the end, Harrow`s defeat was bad enough to make it a really miserable and long, late journey home!
