Welwyn Garden City missed the opportunity to head into Christmas just a point behind the top five in the Pitching In Southern League Division One Central when they were held to a 1-1 draw at Herns Way by fourth-from-bottom Kidlington on Tuesday night.
It was the Citizens who took the lead with a terrific effort from George Ironton, who chested the ball down and struck a fierce volley past the visiting keeper.
But the Greens grabbed a 71st-minute equaliser when a Ryan Markham free-kick was headed back across goal for sub Ryan Knight to fire home at the far post.
Nick Ironton`s side missed several golden opportunities to win the game but had to settle for a share of the spoils against the hardworking Oxfordshire visitors.
