Citizens Add Thompson to Coaching Team

Pitching In Southern League Division One Central club Welwyn Garden City have announced the appointment of Ed Thompson as their new goalkeeping coach.

The 39-year-old has appeared once this season between the posts for the Citizens, helping out when the regular number one Charlie Crowley was unavailable.

A vastly experienced keeper, Thompson has played in the Football League with Dagenham & Redbridge, where he understudied former Welsh international Tony Roberts for two seasons.

He joined the Daggers from Wingate & Finchley, where he was number one and also played for the sadly now defunct Thurrock.

His final club was Harlow Town, where he suffered a recurrence of a serious knee injury, that sadly ended his regular playing career.

City manager Nick Ironton said: “Ed was a fine goalkeeper in his full-time playing days and is a very knowledgeable and experienced coach. He will be a great asset in training our keepers’’.
