Sweeney Goal Ends Boro`s Unbeaten Run

Nuneaton Borough`s run of six games without defeat in the Pitching In Southern League Premier Division Central – a run which lifted them out of the bottom three – was ended on Tuesday night after a 1-0 defeat to Redditch United at the Advanced Machining Stadium.

In front of a crowd of 359 on a miserably wet evening, Matt Clarke`s visitors, who were seven unbeaten going into this game, took an early 4th minute lead when Lewis Hudson`s cross was met by Dan Sweeney, whose effort went in off a post.

Redditch `keeper Kieran Boucher made a couple of decent saves to keep his side in front at the break.

The second half saw Nuneaton make the lions` share of the limited opportunities, but the visitors held firm as the game became a little scrappy and recorded three points which lifts them up to tenth in the table, albeit only six points in ahead of Boro in am increasingly tight division in which only ten points separate Royston Town in eighth and Bromsgrove Sporting in fourth-from-bottom spot.

The scheduled game between Biggleswade Town and AFC Rushden & Diamonds was postponed due to a waterlogged pitch.
