Nuneaton Borough Point Deduction

Pitching In Southern League Premier Division Central club Nuneaton Borough has been deducted one point due to the playing of an ineligible player.

The matter of the ineligible player occurred on Saturday 14th August 2021 in the home league match against Biggleswade Town, the result of which being 3-3.

Nuneaton Borough had fielded Callum Smith as their goalkeeper in the match who had been registered with the league as a non-contract player.

It then transpired that the player was still registered as a contract player with Wolverhampton Sporting and following the Football Association’s investigations, charge, and decision relating to the matter being finalised, the club were subsequently charged by the league with a breach of the Standardised National League System Rule for the playing of an ineligible player in a league fixture.

Following response to the charge by the club, the league’s Board considered the matter and found the charge proven which resulted in a fine and the deduction of the point gained in the match.

The club subsequently exercised its right to appeal the league’s decision to the FA and that appeal was heard yesterday in which both the league and club made representation to the appeal panel.

The decision of that was that the appeal was dismissed.

The league table for Premier Division Central will now show the point deduction.
