Trio of New Freds

Wantage Town, battling to avoid relegation from the Pitching In Southern League Division One Central, included three new signings in their starting line-up that lost 2-1 at Hertford Town on Saturday.

In goal was 20-year-old Alex Avenell, who has joined the Freds on dual registration from Vanarama National League North side Gloucester City.

He had experience with League One side Cheltenham Town`s academy, National League North outfit Kidderminster Harriers` under-23s and had also been in the first-team matchday squad.

He has also appeared in the Tigers` senior squad on numerous occasions while also playing for the under-21s and studying Football Business Management & Coaching at the University of Worcester.

In midfield was 29-year-old Zondi Chunga, who once attended a Malawi under-17 national team camp in England.

He has previously been on the books at Kettering Town, Corby Town, Northampton Spencer, Irchester United and Daventry Town.

He also turned out for Team Solent in the Sydenhams Football League (Wessex) Division One whilst studying at Southampton University.

More recently he has been with United Counties League Premier Division South side Biggleswade United.

In attack was Chief Boateng.

The 27-year-old joins from another UCL Premier Division South outfit, Cogenhoe United.

He has previously been on the books at Rothwell Corinthians, Daventry Town, AFC Rushden & Diamonds and Kempston Rovers.
