Diamonds Borrow Dons Attacker

Pitching In Southern League Premier Division Central play-off chasers AFC Rushden & Diamonds have taken winger Lewis Johnson on loan from League One side MK Dons until the end of the season.

Originally a product of Premier League Aston Villa’s academy, the 18-year-old joined MK Don’s academy in 2019 and has since made a number of appearances for their first team, including in the Football League, having signed a professional deal with them in February 2021.

Johnson was awarded the academy player of the year for 2020/21.

He made his senior bow in the Papa John’s Trophy in November 2020, playing the full 90 minutes against Southampton under-21s.

In total, he has featured 9 times across three competitions, including four League One appearances and a late cameo during a 1-1 Emirates FA Cup draw with Burnley at Turf Moor.

He is no stranger to the Southern League, however, as he made 12 appearances for leaders Banbury United earlier this season, scoring 3 goals.
