Saturday`s Division One Central Round-Up

There is still the issue as to who joins Berkhamsted in the Pitching In Southern League Division One Central play-offs to decide in the final week of the season after Easter Saturday’s games saw Bedford Town crowned as champions.

That was due to their 2-0 win at The Eyrie against county rivals and one of those play-off contenders, AFC Dunstable, and Berko’s surprise defeat at Broadwater to Harlow Town, who have fallen just short themselves.

An excellent crowd of 802 saw a brace from Connor Tomlinson after 12 and 74 minutes seal Bedford’s win.

Reece Robins gave Berko an early 5th-minute lead that Alex Read cancelled out after 36 minutes for the Hawks.

Robins eventually restored the Comrades` lead in the 77th minute, only for Read to level matters with his second of the game in the 84th minute and then Harlow win it 3 minutes into stoppage time, thanks to Simon-Peter Omooba.

Ware are now fourth, just a point behind AFC Dunstable, after they were 1-0 winners at Thame United, courtesy of a goal right on the stroke of half-time from Liam Hope.

Welwyn Garden City suffered a 3-1 derby defeat at Hertingfordbury Park against Hertford Town in front of a decent crowd of 354.

They saw the home Blues take a 2-0 lead with goals from Vladut Sighiartau in the 15th minute and then Obinna Ogbonna 5 minutes later.

Yemi Adelani reduced the arrears just shy of the hour-mark, but Jake Bunyan made sure with a third for the hosts in the last minute – and it’s a result that keeps Ben Herd’s side in the division.

North Leigh are sixth and now two points behind Welwyn Garden City after they beat FC Romania 1-0 at Theobalds Lane, thanks to a 63rd minute Aaron Heap goal.

With Colney Heath and Wantage Town already down, it’s who finishes in that third-from-bottom spot that is still to be determined.

And the current incumbents Kempston Rovers are now five points adrift of Kidlington with only six left to play for after they became Wantage’s fourth victims of the season in a 3-0 Alfredian Park success through Callum Cook after 7 minutes and a Chief Boateng brace in the 40th and 83rd minutes.

Kidlington earned a point from a 1-1 Yarnton Road draw with St Neots Town, whose Callum Anderson levelled Rhys Wells` 12th minute opener right on half-time.

Elsewhere, Waltham Abbey won 2-1 at the Loop Meadow Stadium against Didcot Town, who took a 55th minute lead through Josh Hedges, only for Ace’a Laurent on 61 minutes and Prince Domafriyie 4 minutes into stoppage time to win it for the Abbots.

At Sharpenhoe Road, Tyrone Lewthwaite gave visiting Aylesbury United a 21st-minute lead that Charlie Smith levelled immediately after the break.
