Farnborough Overcome Ten-Man Hayes & Yeading

Farnborough will be returning to the Vanarama National League South for the first time since being relegated in 2014/15 after they overcame Hayes & Yeading United in the Pitching In Southern League Premier Division South play-off final on Bank Holiday Monday.

In front of a sell-out crowd of 1,600 at the SKYex Community Stadium, Spencer Day’s side edged a tight contest 2-1 against the side who finished the regular season as runners-up to Taunton Town.

It was the home side though who took a 13th-minute lead when top scorer Moses Emmanuel intercepted a poor pass at the back to slot home past Jack Turner for his 41st goal of an incredible campaign in all competitions.

But right on the stroke of half-time, Reggie Young grabbed a crucial equaliser for the visitors.

And 5 minutes after the restart, Paul Hughes` side suffered a massive blow when they had their second-highest marksman, Francis Amartey, sent-off.

The rest of the second half saw Farnborough push for a winner against the ten-men but it looked as if the home side were going to force extra-time – until in the 86th minute, Sam Deering popped up to score Boro’s winner and take them back to Step 2 football.
