Saturday's Pre-Season Friendly Round-Up

A busy hot Saturday of action for clubs in the Pitching In Southern Football League.

Premier Division Central

Late goals from an unnamed triallist and an own goal pulled two back for Needham Market at Bloomfields against Vanarama National League South visitors Braintree Town, who scored four, including one from Ben Fowkes, who they recently signed from the Marketmen.

Newcomers Basford United made the long trip to Northern Premier League Division One East side Hebburn Town and shared a 3-3 draw.

Anthony Dwyer, Harvey Grice and Tyreace Palmer being the Nottinghamshire club’s scorers.

Alvechurch beat a squad from Championship side Birmingham City 4-2 at Lye Meadow.

The Church goals came from Nick Clayton-Phillips after 11 minutes, Jed Abbey 6 minutes later and then a Josh Waite brace in the final 6 minutes.

Stratford Town’s second game in 24 hours saw them lose 4-0 at the Arden Garages Stadium to National League South side Oxford City.

Hednesford Town came up against a very good National League North Kidderminster Harriers side at Keys Park and were on the wrong end of a 5-1 defeat.

An own goal accounted for the Pitmen’s goal.

Rushall Olympic shared a 3-3 draw with Northern Premier Division One Midlands new boys Boldmere St Michaels.

Sam Moore from the spot, Sam Mantom and Al Cameron were the Pics scorers.

Coalville Town lost 3-1 at last season’s Premier Division Central champions Banbury United, with an unnamed triallist scoring for the Ravens.

Kings Langley enjoyed a 5-1 success at Spartan South Midlands League Crawley Green.

Alie Bangura, Harry Crawford, Aryan Tajbakhsh, a triallist and an own goal for Kings.

Royston Town won 2-0 at Division One Central side Ware’s Wodson Park.

Kian Harness and an 84th-minute effort from a triallist secured the Crows win.

AFC Rushden & Diamonds edged through in the Northants Hillier Senior Cup against United Counties League Premier Division South hosts Cogenhoe United 6-5 on penalties after a 1-1 draw on 90 minutes.

After the Cooks had led through Alex Parkes` first-half goal, Jenson Cooper pulled Diamonds level on 63 minutes.

Leiston were involved in a three-way mini tournament with Thurlow Nunn Leaguers Mulbarton and Isthmian North new boys Wroxham.

Leiston won both games 2-0 with Adam Mills and Joe Marsden on target against Mulbarton and Finlay Barnes and George Quantrell against the Yachtsmen.

Stourbridge shared a 2-2 draw with old rivals and now Northern Premier Division One Midlands hosts Halesowen Town.

A terrific crowd of 1,105 saw the Glassboys score through Reece Styche and Callum Gittings.

It also ended 2-2 between United Counties Premier Division North side Leicester Nirvana and Barwell.

Nuneaton Borough were held to a 1-1 draw at Liberty Way by Northern Premier Division One Midlands outfit Corby Town.

Matty Stenson equalised for Boro 7 minutes from time after Florian Tsagium had given the Steelmen a first half lead.

Newcomers Ilkeston Town had a Montel Gibson hat-trick to thank for a 3-2 win at United Counties League neighbours Kimberley Miners Welfare.

Tamworth went down to a 3-1 home defeat to a squad from Championship side West Bromwich Albion.

Dan Creaney scored the Lambs consolation.

St Ives Town, meanwhile, shared a 0-0 draw at the Sir Halley Stewart Fields against Northern Premier Division One Midlands hosts Spalding United.


Premier Division South

Dorchester Town were beaten by the odd goal in five at the Avenue Stadium by former rivals and now Division One South outfit Wimborne Town.

Dan Bartlett bagged a brace for the visiting Magpies, along with one from Aaron Roberts, with Olly Balmer and Alex Stanley the home Magpies marksmen.

Metropolitan Police were beaten 3-2 at Isthmian Premier neighbours Carshalton Athletic.

Tom Read and an Archy Taylor penalty were on target for the Met.

Yate Town secured a 5-2 win at Western League Hallen.

Poole Town’s Toby Holmes scored the only goal of the game to earn the hosts a 1-0 Black Gold Stadium win over National League South neighbours Weymouth.

Newly promoted Winchester City and Isthmian South East hosts Whitehawk shared a 2-2 draw.

Ike Hill bagged both for the Citizens.

Merthyr Town suffered a 2-1 home defeat to Cymru Premier side Cardiff Met.

Tiverton Town inflicted a 5-1 hammering on Division One South newcomers Exmouth Town at the Ian Moorcroft Stadium.

Niall Thompson and Kane Simpson braces and Lucas Vowles were the Yellows on target.

Pormoted Plymouth Parkway won an entertaining encounter at Western Leaguers Mousehole AFC 5-3.

Rio Garside with two, Billy Palfrey, Ryan Lane and an own goal were scorers for Parkway.

Hayes & Yeading United were beaten 2-0 at Bell Close by ambitious Spartan South Midlands side Leighton Town.

Salisbury enjoyed a decent 1-1 draw at the Ray Mac against National League South side Havant & Waterlooville.

Former Havant player Sam Ashton scored a 35th minute leveller for the Whites.


Division One Central

Biggleswade Town relegated from the Premier Division Central, were given a tough test at Spartan South Midlands League Division One hosts Raunds Town before edging a late 2-1 win.

Joe Howe gave the Waders a 20th minute lead that the Shopmates cancelled out when an Aaron Ruscoe effort took a deflection and looped over the visiting keeper 7 minutes before the break.

It looked as though a draw was on the cards when a free-kick from 30 yards somehow squirmed past the home keeper 5 minutes from time to make it 2-1 to Robbie O’Keefe’s side.

The two other Bigglesewade teams were in action at The Eyrie but, although FC took the lead through Tom Coles, Spartan South Midlands United went on to win 2-1.

Hertford Town were beaten 3-1 at Creasey Park by Spartan South Midlands Premier Division side Dunstable Town.

Aylesbury United lost 2-1 at Dunstable’s league rivals Tring Athletic – Jake Bewley with the Ducks goal.

Waltham Abbey went down to a 3-2 defeat at Isthmian South East outfit Chatham Town.

Michael Osei was on the mark for newly promoted Walthamstow but they were beaten 2-1 at Chatham’s league rivals VCD Athletic.

Fellow newcomers Hadley won 2-1 at Walthamstow’s former Essex Senior League rivals West Essex.

Didcot Town won the Larry Hill Memorial Trophy with a 1-0 win at Combined Counties League Premier Division Wallingford Town, with an unnamed triallist scoring the Railwaymen’s goal.

Kempston Rovers went down to a 2-1 defeat to FA Vase winners Newport Pagnell Town at Hillgrounds, while Thame United triumphed 2-1 at the ASM Stadium against Spartan South Midlands Premier outfit MK Irish.

Second half goals from Harry Alexander and Dave Pearce won for the Red Kites.

An Ibrahim Kehende brace saw Essex Senior League side beat Harlow Town 2-0.

Welwyn Garden City put up a decent showing before losing 2-1 at Isthmian Premier side Haringey Borough, for whom Andre Odeku and Lewis Hewitt-Byrne pulled back Jake Hutchinson’s 18th minute opener for the Citizens.


Division One South

Willand Rovers win 4-1 at Toolstation Western League Premier Division side Buckland Athletic.

Ollie Bray bagged a brace for Rovers, with Lewis Hill and Dean Stamp adding the others.

Larkhall Athletic were beaten 2-1 at Western League Premier Division Shepton Mallet, with Owen Taylor on the mark for the Larks.

AFC Totton retained the Linden Cup in emphatic fashion by hammering Wessex League One neighbours Totton & Eling 8-1.

Jireh Oyebamiji and Brett Williams both bagged braces, with Jake Adams, Scott Rendell and Adam Tomasso also on target for the Stags.

Bideford AFC welcomed old rivals and now Western League returnees Barnstaple Town and edged a 2-1 win.

An early 2nd minute Lewis Wilson goal and one from Ethan Phillips 17 minutes from time accounted for the Biddy goals, with an own goal pulling Barum back into the game in the 78th minute.

Newcomers Westbury United beat Mangotsfield United, who were relegated at the end of last season, 2-0 with goals from Charlie Walton and Will Thomson.

Evesham United and National League South Bath City shared a 1-1 draw at The Spiers & Hartwell Jubilee Stadium.

Paulton Rovers went down to a 3-1 home defeat to Ardal SE Welsh League side Goytre AFC, who came back from being a 13th-minute Kyle Tooze goal down to win.

And it was a really bad day in the office for Bristol Manor Farm in Wales as they were on the wrong end of a 10-0 hammering at Cymru Premier outfit Pen-Y-Bont.
