A review of the games played on Saturday involving clubs from the Pitching In Southern Football League.

Winchester City claim some early silverware

Premier Division Central

Stratford Town were beaten 2-1 at the Arden Garages Stadium by Vanarama National League North neighbours Leamington.

Jack Lane on 31 minutes and Kieran Cook in the 71st minute had given the visitors a two-goal cushion.

Jack Storer cracked a 20-yard in the 77th minute but the Brakes held firm.

Basford United’s pre-season campaign concluded with a 3-0 victory over Northern Premier Division One East side Grantham Town at Greenwich Avenue.

The hosts went in front after only 6 minutes when Brad McGowan prodded home, and he added a second 15 minutes from time with a clever header after a well-worked corner routine.

Anthony Dwyer scored late on with an exquisite strike.

Leiston suffered a 1-0 defeat at Victory Road against Isthmian League Premier Division side Brightlingsea Regent.

Ollie Sotojinbo scored the only goal of the game shortly after half-time.

Hednesford Town suffered a 2-0 defeat at Marston Road against Northern Premier League Premier Division neighbours Stafford Rangers.

A crowd of 463 saw Rangers` goals from Kaiman Anderson on 6 minutes and Ethan Stewart after 70 minutes.

Alvechurch saw off newly promoted Northern Premier Division One Midlands side Boldmere St Michaels 2-0 with goals from Tyrell Hamilton and Danny Waldron.

Hitchin Town shared a 1-1 draw at Spartan South Midlands League neighbours Biggleswade United.

A 13th minute Jack Morrell penalty for the Canaries was cancelled out 5 minutes into the second half by Cameron Hyde.

Rushall Olympic and National League North side Hereford shared a 0-0 draw at Dales Lane.

The Pics` Sam Moore had a penalty saved by the Bulls` keeper Bradley Wade.

Tamworth won 4-2 at NPL Division Midlands neighbours Coleshill Town.

Ben Milnes, Dan Creaney and Luke Fairlamb scored first half goals for the Lambs, with Cameron Howkins adding the fourth in the second period.

Coalville Town secured a comfortable 6-2 win at Coleshill’s league rivals Loughborough Dynamo.

Tom McGlinchey, Tim Berridge, Eliot Putman and Ashley Chambers two apiece, including a penalty for the Ravens.

And nearby, Barwell beat another from the same division in Shepshed Dynamo 2-1 at the Dovecote.

Royston Town enjoyed a 2-1 win at fancied Isthmian North hosts Aveley.

Danny Newton and an unnamed triallist were the Crows on the mark.

St Ives Town had a good 4-2 win at Isthmian Premier hosts Hornchurch, while Bromsgrove Sporting edged a 1-0 win at the Victoria Ground against NPL Division One Midlands side Bedworth United.

It was that man `a triallist` who scored the only goal for the Rouslers in the 17th minute.

New boys Mickleover secured a 2-0 win at Bedworth’s league rivals Gresley Rovers.

Kai Moore and Javahn Davidson-Miller earned Sports their derby victory.

Ilkeston Town, who also switched from the Northern Premier in the summer after winning Division One Midlands, were beaten 1-0 at home by a Belper Town side who won promotion to the NPL Premier via the play-offs from the same division.

A second half Brodie Lichfield effort proved enough for the Nailers.


Premier Division South

Newly promoted Winchester City earned some early silverware by claiming the Dave Jose Trophy in a 3-0 win at Division One South newcomers Bashley.

Warren Bentley with two and Silva Obeng were the Citizens` on target.

City’s only disappointment was the dismissal of Max Smith for a rash challenge in stoppage time.

Hayes & Yeading United edged a 3-2 win at the SKYex Community Stadium against Isthmian Premier Division side Enfield Town.

Keano Robinson gave the hosts a 15th minute lead that Cole Brown doubled 8 minutes later.

Robinson’s second on the hour-mark made it 3-0. However, Marcus Wyllie on 79 minutes and then Bilal Sayoud 4 minutes into stoppage time made the scoreline closer than it really should have been.

Salisbury had a good 2-1 win against National League South side Hungerford Town at the Ray Mac.

Penney gave the Whites an early first-minute lead that the Crusaders levelled on 10 minutes.

On 72 minutes Brandon Goodship’s penalty was saved by Charlie Davis converted the rebound to make it 2-1.

Swindon Supermarine ran out 5-1 winners at Hellenic League Premier Division Royal Wootton Bassett Town.

Zak Kotwica with a brace, James Harding, Scott Griffin, Harry Williams and
Conor McDonagh were the `Marine marksmen.

There wasn’t much friendliness around at Cams Alders where Gosport Borough ran out 3-0 winners against Wessex League Premier Division neighbours and hosts Fareham Town.

Five minutes before half-time, a scuffle erupted on the pitch which culminated in Fareham having two players and manager Peter Stiles sent-off along with one player from Boro!

Yate Town suffered their first defeat of pre-season at home against National League South side Bath City.

The Romans won it with goals from Luke Spokes after just 3 minutes and Cody Cooke on 16 minutes.

Bracknell Town, switched from the Isthmian League after winning the South Central Division, beat a squad from Championship neighbours Reading 4-2 at Bottom Meadow.

The Robins` scored through Jordan Esprit after 31 minutes, Ashley Lodge 6 minutes later, Gary Abisogun just shy of the hour-mark and an 88th minute Mickel Platt penalty.

Merthyr Town went down to a 2-1 defeat at Cymru Premier hosts Aberystwyth Town.

Frazer Thomas had given the Martyrs a 50th minute lead before Aber levelled on 68 minutes and then won it in the 89th.

At the Optima Stadium, Weston-super-Mare lost 1-0 to National League side Yeovil Town.

An early 8th minute Alex Fisher penalty proved the only goal of the game for the Glovers.

An unnamed triallist scored an 89th minute winner for National League South side Weymouth at the Wessex Stadium against neighbours Dorchester Town.

Truro City were beaten 3-1 by National League side Torquay United at Bolitho Park.

A 43rd minute penalty converted by Tyler Harvey was the White Tigers consolation.

Harrow Borough enjoyed a 5-1 win at Isthmian South Central neighbours Ashford Town (Middx).

James Ewington netted a hat-trick, with Rock Moses and Billy Leonard adding the other Boro goals.

Metropolitan Police saw off Ashford’s league rivals Binfield 3-1.

Jasper Mather with two on 29 and 69 minutes and Shkyler Burrowes on 56 minutes for the Met.

Newcomers Hanwell Town will be disappointed to have lost 4-1 at former Isthmian South Central rivals Northwood.

Callum Woodcock scored the Geordies` consolation.

Hartley Wintney travelled across to Isthmian South Central side Guernsey and won the Mike Thomas Memorial Trophy 3-0.

A Kyen Nicholas brace and Rahzir Smith-Jones were the Row scorers.


Division One South

Newcomers Tavistock AFC were involved in a hastily arranged game at The Cygnet Health Care Stadium against National League South new boys Taunton Town.

And Tavi gave a decent account of themselves before eventually going down to a 5-2 defeat.

Jared Lewington and Dylan Morgan both bagged braces for the Southern Premier Division South champions, with Harry Warwick adding the other.

Alex Battle and Josh Grant netted for the visitors.

Sholing went goal crazy at Wessex Premier neighbours Brockenhurst, smashing their hosts 9-1.

Lee Wort netted five times, Dan Mason bagged a brace and Sami Makhloufi and Jake Cope with singles.

A Scott Rendell penalty on 65 minutes gave AFC Totton a 1-0 lead at the Snows Stadium against Isthmian League South Central side Basingstoke Town.

But the visitors snatched a 90th minute equaliser from new signing Luis le Paih.

Frome Town shared a 2-2 draw at Western League Premier Division Bradford Town.

Owen Humphries and Laurent Davis-Wilson scored the visitors` goals.

Newcomers Westbury United shared a goalless draw at Hellenic League Premier Division Malvern Town.

Another of the newcomers, Hamworthy United, claimed some early silverware by winning the Wessex League Charity Shield 2-0 against Shaftesbury.

New signing Sam Griffin bagged both for the Hammers.

Paulton Rovers had an excellent 2-1 win at Cymru Premier side Penybont.

After the hosts had taken the lead, Ed Butcher equalised after 65 minutes and James Byrne scored Rovers` winner 12 minutes from time.


Division One Central

Biggleswade Town shared a 1-1 draw at home to Premier Division Central side Kings Langley.

Jon Clements gave the Waders a 25th minute lead that Alie Bangura cancelled out within 5 minutes.

Ben Weyman with a brace and Jesse Waller-Lassen were on target for Hertford Town in a 3-1 win at Spartan South Midlands League Premier Division side Harpenden Town.

Welwyn Garden City gave a good account of themselves at the Urbaser Stadium against National League South new boys Cheshunt before going down to a 2-1 defeat.

Karl Kayembe gave the Citizens an early 5th minute lead that Mo Camara levelled on 20 minutes.

Rowan Liburd won it for the Ambers in the 67th minute.

AFC Dunstable claimed a good 1-0 win at Creasey Park against last season’s champions and now Premier Division Central outfit, Bedford Town.

New signing Lucas Kirkpatrick scored the only goal for the OD’s after 64 minutes.

Didcot Town shared a 2-2 draw with Spartan South Midlands League Premier Division side Ardley United.

Taylor-Jay Bedwell and George Jeacock scored the Railwaymen’s goals.

Dan West was on target for Thame United but the Red Kites were beaten 2-1 at last season’s league rivals Colney Heath, who are now back in the Spartan South Midlands League.

Kidlington enjoyed a 6-1 win against Hellenic League Premier Division side Chipping Sodbury Town at Yarnton Road.

Switched Cirencester Town shared a 1-1 Corinium Stadium draw with newly promoted Premier Division South side North Leigh.

Roger James gave the Millers an 8th minute lead that Levi Irving cancelled out after 68 minutes.

A goal from James Verney proved enough for Berkhamsted at the Glencar Community Stadium against Spartan South Midlands League Premier Division side Cockfosters.

Newcomers Walthamstow lost 3-1 at now-NPL Division One Midlands side St Neots Town.
