Former Cheltenham Town youth team captain and centre-back James Fawke, who lives in Bishop’s Cleeve, is making a comeback after being out of the game since 2017.

He was originally with Cheltenham and whilst there had a spell on `work experience` with Gloucester City.

After being released by Cheltenham, he moved to the USA where he had three seasons with the Missouri State University side before spending season 2014/15 with Chicago Fire under-23s.

In the summer of 2015, he signed for Cinderford Town and was a regular in the side that won the Southern League South & West championship that season.

In July 2016, he moved to Oxford City but within weeks had moved onto Banbury United.

In October 2016, he switched to North Leigh and it was whilst on the Millers` books that he decided to call a halt to playing.

Another defender, Gowan Stares, joins Cleeve having most recently been on the books at former Uhlsport Hellenic League Premier Division rivals Malvern Town since returning from a spell in New Zealand with North Wellington.

He was with Cleeve’s new league rivals AFC Totton before his latest spell in New Zealand, which began in July 2020.

Originally with Cheltenham Town, he first went `down under` in 2012 with Western Suburbs and then played for Wanderers SC and Wellington Olympic before signing for Totton in August 2017.

He is a New Zealand under-20 international after taking out joint citizenship.
