Didcot Bring in Experienced Keeper

Pitching In Southern League Division One Central club Didcot Town included vastly experienced goalkeeper Paul Strudley in the team that inflicted a 5-0 hammering on FC Romania on Saturday.

Strudley was brought in after manager Jamie Heapy received the news that his number one Leigh Bedwell was likely to be out for a few weeks with a shoulder injury.

The 37-year-old joins the Railwaymen on dual registration with Isthmian League South Central side Basingstoke Town.

He had signed for `Stoke in August 2020 from Didcot’s former Southern Division One South rivals Thatcham Town, where he had been since June 2019.

He was involved at Waterside Park in 2018/19 in more of a coaching capacity but was eager to resume his playing career with the Kingfishers.

He played four times for Thatcham while making several appearances for Hartley Wintney with whom he was dual-registered.

He served as Thatcham’s keeper throughout their previous Southern League days through to the 2011/12 season.

Upon departing for Hungerford Town, he was part of the Crusaders’ rise up the football ladder before moving on to Hartley Wintney.
