The 19-year-old is no stranger to the division, having previously played for Hednesford Town last season.
He started out in the Sunderland youth set-up, and the 6`4” keeper was a regular for the Black Cats in the Under-18 Premier League, before turning professional for the Blues, having originally arrived at St Andrews for a trial period.
During his trial, he kept a clean sheet in the win over Sheffield United that crowned them Under-23s Professional Development League national champions at the end of the 2021/22 campaign.
In the 18 months since Basey’s progression has seen him play in both the Premier League 2 and PDL, whilst he was one of three ‘keepers who travelled to Portugal for the first team’s pre-season training camp in July.
