Experienced defender Michael Harriman has swapped Bedford Town’s relegation scrap from the Pitching In Southern League Premier Division Central for an even bigger task after joining rivals AFC Rushden & Diamonds.

The 30-year-old had joined the Eagles in October 2022 from League Two side Northampton Town.

He moved to the Cobblers as a free agent in September 2019 and played 75 times across the following three seasons.

He will be best remembered for producing two brilliant performances in the play-offs in 2020.

He played a key role in helping the Cobblers overturn a 2-0 first-leg deficit to beat Cheltenham Town 3-2 in the semi-finals before starring at Wembley in the final.

He has a wealth of League experience, having played over 260 games in the last ten years.

His career includes spells at Queens Park Rangers, Luton Town and Gillingham and also made over 100 appearances in four years with Wycombe Wanderers.

He also won international recognition for the Republic of Ireland, winning caps at under-18, 19 and under-21 level.

He joins another recent recruit at Hayden Road in 18-year-old midfielder Roddy McGlinchey, who signed on loan from League One side Peterborough United earlier this month until the end of the 2022/23 season.

McGlinchey joined the Posh from Leicester City in 2021 and went on to skipper the club’s under-18 team before earning a professional development contract in the summer of 2022.

This season has seen the 6’1” central midfielder progress into Peterborough’s under-23 side.
