Berko celebrate (Photo Peter Else)
Despite the weather, a crowd of 461 witnessed a good, hard fought encounter in which Berkhamsted took a 12th minute lead through Luke Andrews following a corner.
But the Canaries were back on level terms on the half-hour mark when Finley Wilkinson got his head to a Layne Eadie cross to beat Cameron Groom in the Comrades` goal.
So, all square at the break and all to play for.
And within 7 minutes of the restart, Berkhamsted were back in front, and ironically it was former Hitchin favourite Ben Walster, who made over 100 appearances for the Canaries, who grabbed it with a well-struck free-kick.
But Hitchin responded well once more and were level again just shy of the hour-mark when Jack Snelus profited from a poor back pass to beat Groom.
Mark Burke’s side put on some late pressure but Chris Devane`s men held firm to take the final into a penalty shoot-out which Berko triumphed 4-2.
They will now look to make it a league and cup `double` at home to Kidlington on Saturday.
