Coalville Town overtook long-time leaders Tamworth after winning 3-1 at the Westwood Stadium against a now relegation-threatened St Ives Town, while the Lambs were held at home by already-relegated AFC Rushden & Diamonds.
A crowd of 454 saw Coalville take the lead 4 minutes before half-time when Luke Shaw fired past James Dadge in the Ives goal.
Then, on 57 minutes, Tom McGlinchey put the visitors two ahead when he drove past a couple of tackles before sliding the ball home.
But 8 minutes later, the hosts were back in the contest when they hit the Ravens on the break with Jonny Edwards beating Paul White in the visiting goal.
A couple of minutes into time added on at the end of the game, Max Brogan made sure when he made it 3-1 from the edge of the box.
A crowd of 1,027 at the CR Mot Centre Community Stadium saw Andy Peaks` Tamworth held by his former club.
Able to play a more relaxed way after their fate had been sealed and on the back of two draws and a win since then, it was never going to be easy for the Lambs.
And the visitors took the lead in the 23rd minute, thanks to a fine strike from Luis Pinto-Leite fired a 25-yard effort past Jaz Singh in off a post.
It wasn’t looking like being Tamworth’s day but, with 8 minutes left to play, the hosts` equalised when Dan Creaney set up Ty Deacon to fire past Diamonds` keeper Dean Snedker.
However, just 3 minutes later, Joel Anker was able to run unopposed all the way to the box before firing past the exposed Singh to restore the visitors lead.
But the roof almost came off the stand when, with 2 minutes of stoppage time gone, Deacon grabbed what could prove to be a vital equaliser.
Leiston are just not going away, and they won 2-1 at Victory Road to remain just a point behind Tamworth in third.
The Suffolk side beat fourth-placed Rushall Olympic to stretch their unbeaten home run to 21 matches in all competitions.
Goalless at the break, Leiston broke the deadlock in the 56th minute when George Quantrell beat Jake Weaver in the Pics goal after good work from Seb Dunbar.
But on 86 minutes, the visitors got back on level terms when Sam Mantom fired past Sam Donkin.
As stoppage time ticked in though, Quantrell’s corner was volleyed home by Will Davies – his 30th goal of the season – to seal a big win for Darren Eadie and Chris Wigger’s men.
Fifth-placed Nuneaton Borough returned to winning ways and are now level on points with Rushall after a comfortable 4-0 win at Liberty Way against a Bromsgrove Sporting side who are now looking a little nervously at the bottom end of the table.
Nuneaton led 1-0 at the break in front of 604, courtesy of a 19th minute Ryan Beswick penalty after Jaanai Gordon had been brough down in the area.
Five minutes after the interval, Scott McManus headed a Beswick corner home to double Boro’s lead.
A close range Gordon finish added a third on 69 minutes, and then Camron McWilliams made it 4-0 in the 75th minute, although there was still time for Boro substitute Jaden Charles to hit the woodwork.
The teams sitting just below the top five are nine points adrift with six matches left, so it would need a blow up from Nuneaton or Rushall to allow Mickleover in, despite their 1-0 win against mid-table Royston Town at the Don Amott Arena.
A 10th minute Andy Dales effort proved enough for Sports in the end – they also hit the woodwork in the opening period.
Ilkeston Town’s hopes are now just about gone after they suffered a 2-1 defeat at Lye Meadow against an Alvechurch side who are now safe.
The Robins were in good form heading into this one and took a 16th minute lead through Remaye Campbell.
The crowd of 366, including a good number of visiting fans, saw Church hit back in the second half with two goals in 3 minutes midway through the half from Danny Waldron and Jack Concannon.
It became a little feisty towards the end of the game and Ilkeston’s assistant boss Jamie Jepson was red carded in stoppage time for disputing a referee’s decision.
Stratford Town’s 1-1 draw at the Arden Garages Stadium against in-form Barwell took them two points clear of the drop zone.
It also ensured Hednesford Town’s drop into Step 4 level.
A crowd of 563 saw Ben Hart give the Canaries an early 9th minute lead.
Charlie Williams pulled the Bards back on level terms 6 minutes before the break.
Then, on 67 minutes, Stratford were awarded a penalty but substitute Will Grocott’s effort was saved by Andy Wycherley.
And the afternoon got worse for Grocott as he was shown a straight card in the 76th minute for sliding in on Wycherley when the keeper had the ball in both hands.
Fourth-from-bottom Kings Langley were beaten by the odd goal in five at the Orbital Fasteners Stadium by mid-table Stourbridge.
The Glassboys got off to a great start when Jason Cowley put them in front inside the opening 4 minutes.
Cowley added his second after 22 minutes before Ethan Light reduced the deficit on 35 minutes.
Cowley went on to complete his hat-trick just after the hour-mark when he converted a penalty after Callum Rowe had been brought down in the area.
Redditch United are eighth after recording a 2-1 win at the Trico Stadium against Hitchin Town, who are now 13th.
Jack Byrne gave the Reds a great start with the opening goal after just 3 minutes.
Lewis Hudson added number two in the 34th minute but the Canaries battled back and in the end `won` the second half with an 88th minute Jack Snelus effort.
