Saturday's Premier Division One Central Round-Up

Fortunately, the Pitching In Southern League Premier Division Central lost only two of its scheduled matches to the wet weather today – the games at Bedford Town and Hednesford Town - and it also saw new leaders for the first time since September.

Coalville Town won 3-1 at Westwood Road against a now relegation-threatened St Ives Town side, while long-time leaders Tamworth were held at home by already doomed AFC Rushden & Diamonds.

Luke Shaw gave Coalville the lead 4 minutes before half-time in front of a crowd of 454.

Then on 57 minutes, Tom McGlinchey doubled the Ravens` advantage.

Jonny Edwards pulled Ives back into the game on 65 minutes, but in the 2nd minute of stoppage time, Max Brogan made sure with Coalville’s third.

A crowd of 1,027 at the CR Mot Centre Community Stadium saw a relaxed Diamonds side, who have drawn two and won once since having relegation confirmed, took a 23rd minute lead through Luis Pinto-Leite.

And they held that advantage until 8 minutes from time when Ty Deacon pulled the Lambs back on level terms.

But just 3 minutes later, Joel Anker restored Diamonds` lead, but Deacon rescued a vital point for Andy Peaks` men 2 minutes into stoppage time.

Third-placed Leiston show no signs of disappearing from the title challenge and they moved to within a point of Tamworth after beating the team immediately below them, Rushall Olympic, 2-1 at Victory Road.

After a goalless opening period, it was George Quantrell who broke the deadlock to give the Suffolk side a 56th minute lead.

But Sam Mantom popped up with the Pics` equaliser with only 4 minutes remaining.

Only for Quantrell to turn provider for Will Davies` 30th goal of the season in all competitions as the game ticked into stoppage time.

Fifth-placed Nuneaton Borough are now level on points with Rushall after inflicting a 4-0 drubbing on a Bromsgrove Rovers side who now need to keep a firm eye on the relegation zone.

A Ryan Beswick penalty after 19 minutes for a foul on Jaanai Gordon set Boro on their way in front of 604 at Liberty Way.

And then 5 minutes after half-time, Scott McManus doubled Boro’s lead before Gordon added a third on 69 minutes.

Camron McWilliams wrapped up a comfortable victory for Jimmy Ginnelly’s side 15 minutes from time.

The chasing pack are now 9 points behind the top five, with Mickleover in sixth beating mid-table Royston Town 1-0 at the Don Amott Arena to keep their slim hopes alive.

Andy Dales` 10th minute effort eventually proved enough for Sports.

But Ilkeston Town’s good run is over as they were beaten 2-1 in front of 366 at Lye Meadow by a now safe Alvechurch.

The Robins led at the break through Remaye Campbell’s 16th minute effort.

But Church hit them with two goals in 3 minutes midway through the half from Danny Waldron and Jack Concannon.

Things turned a little feisty near the end, with Ilkeston’s assistant boss James Jepson being shown a red card for disputing the referee’s decision a little too vociferously!

Despite not playing today, second-bottom Hednesford Town were relegated after 18th-placed Stratford Town gained a point at the Arden Garages Stadium against in-form Barwell.

Ben Hart gave the Canaries a 9th minute lead that Charlie Williams levelled 6 minutes before the break.

Then, on 67 minutes, the Bards were awarded a penalty only for sub Will Grocott to see his effort saved by Andy Wycherley.

And those two were in action shortly afterwards when Grocott was adjudged to have gone in on the keeper with studs showing and he was shown a straight red card.

Fourth-bottom Kings Langley are now two points behind Stratford after losing 3-2 at the Orbital Fasteners Stadium to mid-table Stourbridge.

Jason Cowley gave the Glassboys an early 4th minute lead that hew doubled in the 22nd minute.

Ethan Light reduced the deficit in the 35th minute, but Cowley went on to complete his hat-trick from the spot just after the hour-mark.

Cain Keller pulled another back for Kings, but it came 3 minutes into stoppage time.

Redditch United moved up to eighth in the table after recording a 2-1 win at the Trico Stadium against Hitchin Town, who are now 13th.

A crowd of 343 saw Jack Byrne take only 3 minutes to give the Reds the lead.

And on 34 minutes, Lewis Hudson doubled the home side’s advantage.

The Canaries `won` the second half with an 88th minute Jack Snelus effort.
