Busy Melksham Retain Two More of Last Season's Squad

Busy Pitching In Southern League Division One South club Melksham Town have announced the retention of two more of last season’s squad.

Robbie James has agreed new terms and will be back at the Oakfield Stadium next season.

The 25-year-old centre-back had only signed for Melksham in March 2023 from Uhlsport Hellenic League Premier Division side Fairford Town.

He was club captain at The Sem Stadium, having joined from Cirencester Town in 2018.

He came up through the Cirencester youth ranks before making 18 first team appearances.

Melksham manager Mark Collier told his club’s website: "A late season signing, Robbie made a big impression with a man of the match performance at Willand Rovers. Has added strength and competition to our back line."

Another defender, George Plank, will also be returning to Melksham.

The 28-year-old former Swindon Town graduate is an accomplished coach and keen Futsal player who regularly turns out for Reading.

Former clubs also include Bemerton Heath Harlequins, Shrewton United and Amesbury.

He joined Isthmian League Premier Division side Corinthian-Casuals in the summer of 2022, then had a spell with Leatherhead before returning to Wessex League side Amesbury in October 2022.

He made the switch to Melksham in January 2023.

Collier added: "George had a strong end to the season, is looking forward to a full pre-season to ensure he starts the campaign fully fit. He gives me options with his ability to play many positions".
