Frome Snap Up Seagulls Striker

Pitching In Southern League Division One South club Frome Town have announced the signing of the striker Ben Griffith.

The 21-year-old joins the Robins from newly-promoted Vanarama National League South side Weston-super-Mare AFC where he progressed through the youth set-up after joining the Seagulls at the age of 12.

Griffith became an under-18 player at the start of the 2018/19 season as well as making 2 appearances for the under-19s during the same season.

During his first season of under-18 football, he made 13 appearances and scored 3 goals for Somerset County League Premier Division side Wrington Redhill, which ended in relegation for the club.

In August 2019, he got his first experience of senior men’s football within the Toolstation Western League, making 4 appearances and assisting 2 goals for Premier Division side Clevedon Town.

In October 2019, he moved to Western League Division One South side Cheddar before dual registering with Weston.

He appeared 5 times for the Seagulls during 2019/20 and has also spent time on loan with Frome’s league rivals Willand Rovers.

Frome manager Danny Greaves told his club’s website: “Ben is a young, talented, and hungry forward whose pace and direct approach will add a different dimension to our game, something which we lacked at times last season. Having crossed paths with Ben a number of times while he was on loan at Willand and watched him, I have always been impressed by his dynamism. Scott Bartlett could not speak highly enough of the lad, and I have to say during all our conversations he has come across very well and showed his eagerness to come to Frome”.
