Mickleover Move for Atkinson - Three More Commit

Pitching In Southern League Premier Division Central club Mickleover have signed midfielder Will Atkinson and seem three of last season's squad commit for 2023/24.

Atkinson joins Sports from Vanarama National League North side Boston United.

The experienced 34-year-old had been with the Pilgrims since June 2022.

He had re-signed for National League side Southend United in August 2021 from National League North side Alfreton Town, who he joined in late October 2020.

He arrived at the Impact Arena with plenty of experience after coming through the youth ranks at Hull City.

He joined Port Vale on loan back in 2007 from then-Premier League Hull and had further spells at the likes of Southend United, Rochdale, Bradford City, Mansfield Town and Rotherham United.

He amassed over 300 League appearances during his career, including winning promotion with Bradford City and playing in a League Cup final for the Bantams against Swansea in 2013.

He then re-joined Port Vale in October 2019 on a short-term deal before signing until the end of the 2019/20 season. He was then released by the Vale.

Meanwhile, committing to Mickleover for 2023/24 are Ethan Mann, Joe Bateman and Andy Dales.

Mann looks to build on his successful campaign last season by signing with the club for our upcoming season.

The 19-year-old came through Mickleover’s academy, having originally been at Derby County until the age of 14.

Bateman, 24, was also on Derby’s books up to under-23 level before signing for Sports at the end of the 2020/21 season.

Dales, and England C international, was last season’s top scorer.

He joined Mickleover in August 2021 after being released by Scunthorpe United.
