Another Pair of Brakes Commit for 2023/24

Paul Holleran, manager of Pitching In Southern League Premier Division Central newcomers Leamington, has confirmed that Connor Taylor and Junior English will link up with the squad once more for the 2023/24 season.

This will be the sixth season that Leamington-based Taylor has been in and around the Brakes squad since arriving from Tamworth in 2018, although he spent the majority of the 2021/22 season with Bromsgrove Sporting, and also spent time out on loan at Barwell last season.

He has always been available if and when needed, and the manager feels that having kept himself busy over the summer, he will be an asset in the coming months.

Holleran told his club’s website: “Connor has kept himself in great shape during the close season and has worked on a really good programme, and we're looking forward to working with him again. He has had a lot of game time at this level in the last couple of seasons, and this will be important for us as we go through the season.”

English has also committed to the club as they tackle the Southern Premier Division once more.

Having played his entire career at Step 2 until now, these will be new waters for the versatile utility man, but his vast experience will ensure that he will continue to be an integral part of the squad, not least for his ability to operate in several positions.

The experienced 37-year-old joined Leamington in August 2017after a season with Worcester City.

He has been one of the Brakes most consistent performers, turning out in several positions and featuring in almost every game and was voted players’ player of the year in 2017/18.

Apart from a loan spell at Brackley Town towards the end of the 2015/16 season, the only other clubs he has turned out for are Moor Green and Solihull Moors.

Joining the youth team as a 17-year-old, he made his debut in November 2004, and as the club merged with Solihull Borough in 2007 he went on to make over 300 appearances, playing in every position except goalkeeper, and was part of the squad that won promotion to the National League in 2016.

Holleran added: “We're delighted that Junior will be staying to start his seventh season with us,' said the gaffer. 'He has always been great to work with and is always available to slot in where we need him and cause problems for the opposition. We're looking forward to continuing to work with him”.
