Skipper Boost for Basingstoke

Pitching In Southern League Premier Division South newcomers Basingstoke Town have announced that club captain Simon Dunn has put pen-to-paper to remain with the Isthmian League South Central champions.

The 30-year-old was highly sought-after when he made the move to Vanarama National League South side Slough Town from Basingstoke in the summer of 2016.

He made the reverse journey back to Basingstoke in August 2020.

He is a classy central midfielder who came through the ranks at Basingstoke as an academy player before making it into the first team.

He also represented England Universities before becoming a key first team member.

Manager Dan Brownlie told his club’s social media outlets: “It’s so important that we don’t take the news of retained players for granted. Especially someone of the quality of Simon.

“He’s proven to be a leader that is perfect for the modern day player.

“In management you have to trust who you’re working with and in the skipper, we have someone we can truly rely on.

“Make no mistake, whether it was anticipated or not, it’s a huge signing for us”.
