Experienced Hodges Commits to Basingstoke

Pitching In Southern League Premier Division South newcomers Basingstoke Town have announced the retention of experienced attacking player Paul Hodges for 2023/24.

The 30-year-old joined Basingstoke in January 2023 and helped them to win the Isthmian League South Central title.

An attacking player who can play out wide or in an advanced midfield role just behind the striker, he joined Vanarama National League side Woking after a successful trial period in the summer of 2018.

Local to the Woking area, he is a self-confessed supporter of the club and was even a ball boy in his youth, but after spending time with Reading as a teenager he put his football career to one side to concentrate on becoming a teacher.

Close to 10 years on he returned to his boyhood club following spells with Abbey Rangers and Hartley Wintney, for whom he scored 30 goals in all competitions.

He was released by Woking in February 2020 and was quickly snapped up by National League South side Slough Town, although he returned to the Cards in March 2021.

He moved to Farnborough in August 2021 and then stayed in that division following Boro’s promotion to the National League South by signing for Hayes & Yeading United on loan in August 2022 and then rivals Hartley Wintney a month later.

Basingstoke manager Dan Brownlie told the club’s social media outlets: "It's so exciting to have Paul Hodges with us again. It's tough to join midway through a season but he made a huge impact on and off the pitch last season. Fans will love watching him".
