Davies Makes More Permanent Long Eaton Move

Pitching In Southern League Premier Division Central new boys Long Eaton United have announced the permanent signing of midfielder Curtis Davies.

Davies was a first-year professional at League Two Mansfield Town during 2022/23 and spent the latter stages of last season on loan with Ian Deakin’s side – helping Long Eaton secure promotion to Step 3 for the first time in the clubs’ history.

He joined Mansfield in July 2020 having previously played for Sheffield United, Sheffield Wednesday and Rotherham United in the past.

The 19-year-old now joins Long Eaton on a permanent basis, with the Stags opting not to extend Davies’ contract this time around.

Long Eaton manager Ian Deakin told his club’s website: “I think Curtis will be really important for us this season – he is a player that I have known since he was 16 years old, coming into that building at Mansfield.

“He has had a really tough journey so far in terms of his footballing career, he has suffered a lot of injuries and that’s not because he is unfit, it is just due to his body, but I think he has got over that now and you can see that in the way that he plays.

“He is a very dynamic midfield player that drives into spaces and works hard, and to say that he is quite small in stature, he is very strong, tenacious and just seems to be everywhere on the pitch – that in my eyes is what you want from your midfielder.

“Curtis is going to be a real asset in terms of the way we want to play this year, he is a workhorse and always wins his battles with that never give-in attitude.

“When he joined Mansfield, he worked his way through the academy and earned himself a professional contract in his own right, so he has been a professional footballer and that’s no easy task.

“Now, at our level of football, but really at any level of football, it is about winning games and consistently playing well – that is something that he will now have to add into his game and transition into the way we play as a team.

“It is a different formation and a different style of play to what he is used to, but I think from a consistency point of view, you are able to pick up on styles and techniques really quickly – we will playing Saturday, Tuesday, this season, and that will therefore hopefully help him build into that player he wants to be, playing full-time in the higher leagues”.
