Originally in the academy system at Wolverhampton Wanderers, the 26-year-old moves to Southampton’s famed academy in September 2013 and signed his first professional deal three months later.
He was sent out on loan in January 2018 by the Saints to then-League Two side Yeovil Town, where he made 8 appearances, and then to Eastleigh, for whom he played 14 times and scored 2 goals.
In January 2021, Barnes joined then-League Two side Oldham Athletic following a successful trial, signing a contract until the end of the 2020/21 season, and made 7 appearances.
He spent the end of last year with Northern Colorado based Hailstorm FC in the USL League One.
Mickleover manager John McGrath told his club’s media outlets: “Marcus is a player who will add great athleticism and speed to our front line. He’s an exceptionally talented footballer who we believe has the ability to play higher up the football divisions.”
Barnes added: “I’m looking forward to enjoying my football and joining a group players and a club with the ambition of wanting to achieve success this year, and hopefully throughout I can contribute towards that”.
