Hughes Earns Redditch Deal

Pitching In Southern League Premier Division Central club Redditch United have signed defender Matty Hughes.

Hughes joins the Reds ahead of the 2023/24 season after impressing in pre-season.

Throughout the pre-season games so far he has played as a central defender and helped keep clean sheets against the likes of Vanarama National League North side Brackley Town and National League outfit Kidderminster Harriers.

Last season he was part of the championship-winning Walsall Wood team that saw him play all 38 games in the Midland League Premier Division and was part of the best defensive record in the league, conceding just 17 goals.

The centre-back bagged himself 5 goals and racked up 6 assists too.

Redditch manager Matt Clarke told his club’s website: "Matty is someone I've been watching closely over the last 18 months, so I've seen him develop. He's not the finished article yet but he's got some real good traits that I believe will lead him to become a very good player moving forward".
