Two Triallists Earn Frome Deals

Pitching In Southern League Division South club Frome Town have announced the signings of Caleb Summerfield and Thomas Duffin following a successful pre-season trial.

Summerfield, originally from the South West, has recently moved to Wiltshire and Frome boss Danny Greaves was alerted to his availability and received some great reports, including one from his previous manager.

Summerfield can play in a number of positions, but is primarily a right back or wing-back.

He is comfortable in a back three on the left or right and started off his senior career at Toolstation Western Leaguers Saltash United at 17.

After playing in the Dallas Cup, he was scouted for a scholarship resulting in him spending three years in the USA for Rich Mountain and Brewton Parker.

After his return in the summer of last year he played in the Western League Premier Division for Millbrook where he received many plaudits for his performances.

Manager Danny Greaves told his club’s website: "I am extremely pleased to have Caleb onboard for the upcoming season. He has been in since day one and has been as dedicated as they come, working hard and earning a deal. He knows he has competition in his position, like we do everywhere, but he is willing to knuckle down and fight which shows what sort of character we are getting. He has been solid in pre-season across a number of positions, and that versatility is so important at this level."

Duffin, who is US-born but holds dual British citizenship, has recently moved to the UK.

He is no stranger to this part of the world, however, due to his family roots and has been over on a number of occasions, participating trials at clubs like Glasgow Rangers and Crystal Palace as recently as this spring.

While in the States, Duffin featured for Orlando City and won two Florida State Championship victories for Pine School in 2022 and 2023 and played USL 2 soccer league for FC Florida.

He spent a few weeks on trial with Vanarama National League South neighbours Bath City in July before Frome were alerted to his availability, and following some impressive displays in the last three games, he has put pen-to-paper.

Greaves added: "Thomas is new to the UK and this level of football. It will be interesting to see how he handles the physical and direct nature of the Southern League. He has great technical ability and a wonderful left foot. I'm really looking forward to working with him and seeing him progress”.
